Santo Domingo.– Dominican President Leonel Fernandez explained it is impossible to assign more funds to the Central Electoral Committee, due to the International Monetary Fund interference in the national economy.

The IMF demanded a 20 billion pesos-surplus, around $606 million, from this country for the coming fiscal year, at the risk of applying sanctions in the stand by agreement between them, according to the president's statements.

This reality is a consequence of the disaster that my government inherited from the previous administration (Hipolito Mejia's), asserted the statesman, candidate to reelection in the vote scheduled for May 16.

Fernandez announced a meeting with his State Treasury Secretary Vicente Bengoa and the electoral entity's leadership to explain the reasons why it is impossible to assign more funds to it.

Part of the requirements by the institutions would be met, if this situation would not exist, said the president, who considered to concluded this agreement with the IMF for the people to maintain its confidence in the Dominican economy's future.

The JCE complained publicly about the 67.84 percent dramatic decrease of its request, in relation to the entry assigned to it in the national budget.

PLD ecomimic advisors are overheard trying to get the presidents attention:

Pssst, psst, psst!

What muchachos, no molesten so much, no more cuartos for you the IMF is looking.

Yeah, that's what we have been trying to tell you Lio-nel, our internal polls are showing that the "lets blame everthing on Hipolito" is not holding water like the Taveras Dam. Okay, okay what should I use to obsfucate the public?

Lio-nel blame your incompetence on the IMF. Briliant idea, people hate the IMF more than me and Hipolito combined, I am such a genuis.

Now when is the international confrence on fixing potholes in LA CAPITAL scheduled for?

IMF has Leonel Fernandez by the balls or the behind or by both. He has to take a brave stand like Nestor Kirchner of Argentina or accept the menial job of serving as the IMF's executive vice president for the DR while he of course retains the empty title of "president."

It will be harder for Fernandez to take a stand for sovereignty against the IMF because the less mature DR bourgeoisie is more pro-US imperialism than the Argentine bourgeoisie.

The Argentinean bourgeosie commonly elevates its national interests above those of the US imperialists.

DR bourgeoisie, on the other hand, wants to enjoy cocktails with the grinning imperialists and the rich DRs want to get patted on the head, shoulders, and behind, like a dog, child, or mate.

The DR bourgeoisie is hopelessly tamed and obsequious in the extreme.

Leonel Fernandez looks like he really wants to make a move against the US imperialists but the reactionary-infested DR bourgeoisie has him on a short leash.

The fact is that without the IMF, (which by the refused to give any more support to Mejia) the country would by now be in total chaos. And if Leonel chooses to blame the IMF for his inability to give an extra couple of billion pesos for the JCE to waste, I say good for the IMF, good for Leonel, and most importantly GREAT for us.

Why are people so hard on the President? I think he' s done a lot for the development of the country. I don't know why people have to be so impatient. It take time to accomplish things. It really gets on my nerves that people have to always criticize this brilliant man for everything he does. Just look a the statistics...the Dominican Republic has never experienced the excellent economic growth, the improvements in health and education that have been accomplish in the years he's been President. Now has he not been perfect and has neglected certain issues? Absolutely!..but slowly but surely things are getting better and we have seen a lot of progress! I came from the DR to the US when I was 3 years-old and I'm 30 years-old now and even though I have only been back 5 times and stayed a few months each time, I keep up with happenings in the DR. I hope to someday return to stay because I know that at the current pace it will be a highly developed country by 2020...continued

Trust me, I do a lot of online research. At just 5% growth each year the Dominican Republic will achieve a GDP PPP per capita income of US$20,000 by the early 2020s and the UN Human Development Index has greatly improved. The HDI measures how developed a country. The DR jumped from 94th on the list to 79th from 2004 to 2005.. (data from 2004 was released in 2006, date from 2005 was recently released in November 2007)...DR went from a.751 score to .779 (.800 and more means high standard of development and the most advanced countries score .900 and more)... So do the math and DR could achieve .900 by 2020. We are probably just at .800 right now, but 2007 data won't be released until 2009. So I will estimate that next year's data will give us about a .790 for the 2006 year.

I agree with Escott, clearly Edward in MA has to be on a hallucinogen.

I know an American girl who happens to be a young white liberal was visiting her novio Dominican's home in gated community near Casa de Campo. After days, she noticed while sight seeing in la capital many depleted shacks & huts below along the river below the bridge. When she questioned her bourgeosie novio why does not the rich or Gov help the poor? The bourgeosie Dominican's reponse was, "they like to live like that!"

For years, I never understood bad decisions of RD Gov, weak judicial system giving pardons to those that can afford it, corrupt police & DNCD double agents etc. But the truth is that if you are well off, well-connected, living in the right area with a cushy Gov job then you see a very different RD. Thus, taking money from Education to put into a Metro (should not be built below ground in a place prone to earthquakes & hurricanes) will make sense for those on a hallucinogen.

I'm not saying that the DR doesn't have problems that need to be fixed. There are still high levels of crime, corruption, poverty, income inequality, etc but it's getting better. It will take a while, but I'm confident that they will figure it out. The DR needs to spend more money on social programs and I think that is the solution to most of the country's problems. For the people who don't believe me that the DR is on pace to be a highly developed country by 2025...you're gonna be like "wow Edward was right!" in 20 years. LOL

The "Web of Debt" catches the US, too.

The US debt ... inflamed by the filthy GOPs since Clinton and Gore left annual surpluses which the vile GOPs blew ... is the amount of money owed by the US regime to creditors who hold US Treasuries. As of December 19, 2007 the "total" U.S. federal debt held by the public was roughly $5 trillion.

This does not include the money owed to Social Security beneficiaries whose SS Trust fund has been looted by the GOPs. If intra government debts are included, the US regime's debt figure rises roughly from $5 trillion to $9 trillion.

If unfunded Medicaid, Social Security, etc. this figure ... the debt of the US regime ... rises dramatically from $9 trillion to $59.1 trillion.

In 2005 the public debt was 64.7% of GDP, according to the CIA's World Factbook.

This infinite US regime debt is the motive or driving force behind the voracious and uncontrollable appetite of IMF for stealing the money of other countries, like the DR.
Written by: Belial, 31 Dec 2007 2:44 PM
From: United States, Texas
The debt of the US regime is so huge that it is already unpayable. The US regime almost hopelessly struggles even to keep up with interest payments on the debt.

Thus, the GOP regime must periodically break loose and expose itself as a rogue regime -- invading other countries, plundering their resources, and exterminating their popuations.

As of Sept. 7, 2007, the aggression and occupation by the GOP regime against Iraq had occasioned the deaths of 1,200,000 Iraqi citizens.

http://www.opinion.co.uk/Newsroom_details.aspx?NewsId=78

After inflaming the GOP regime's debt following the Clinton/Gore surpluses, the GOP regime, a bunch malignant hypocrites, tries today to instruct other countries, like DR, about fiscal responsibility.

The GOP has gone too far to the right with their neo-conservative ideology. That's why I think they are doomed unless they move back closer to the center again. With the way they operate now I don't see the US electing a Republican President anytime soon.
Written by: Belial, 31 Dec 2007 3:08 PM

Really, the GOP regime doesn't pay its debts.

When a US Treasury bond matures, the GOP regime issues two new bonds to retire the old bond.

This does not pay the debt, rather it grows the debt.

But the deranged and perverse US reactionaries who unconstitutionally hold power in the USA can not undertand the difference between growing and paying the debt.

"Dismount Saddam?" And you criticize my usage? The Bush regime "dismounted Saddam" by an attack & occupation that caused 1.2 million Iraqi deaths, so far.

http://www.opinion.co.uk/Newsroom_details.aspx?NewsId=78

I hope the Bush regime doesn't "dismount" any other countries in 2008.

I "cause as much dissatisfaction as possible?" I assumed that 1.2 million Iraqi deaths occasioned by the US occupation and lies caused, at least, a little dissatisfaction.

"Don't appreciate political party of which you have no intimate knowledge nor association?" I have no association, but a lot of knowledge about this party, the GOP, of animals, savages, and monsters.

"Your verbage is ... deplorable and ... libelous?" But if I were to slaughter 1.2 million people, like the GOPs, based on lies about WMDs & 9/11, I would be fine fellow. Huh?

"You ... don't have the type of character?" In time ... 100 years, I'll learn to rejoice over extreme genocide like the GOPs.

"If you want people to pay attention?" I hope you don't loosely include GOPs among "people."

"Heard by the unwshed masses?" These masses are not washed in the blood of 1.2 million human beings murdered by Bush and his GOPs.

"Rabble rouser?" I don't slaughter or order or urge people to slaughter other people. Bush is the rouser and his followers are the rabble.

"Elevate your comments?" Why don't you come back to earth?

"Gain a following?" I already agree with the majority of the US people as the Nov. 7, 2006, US legislative elections and subsequent opinion polls during 2007 on Bush attest. I don't want any savage, vile, and degenerate GOPs to follow me. I keep my distance from this trash.

"Spread your TOXIC HATE?" I take care and strive to express the truth. Truth is toxic only to those who are in love with lies.

"TOXIC HATE of Republicans in the US?" The majority of the people of the "US" share my views about the GOPs or entertain even stronger views than mine against the GOPs, as the Nov. 7, 2006, US legislative elections and subsequent opinion polls during 2007 on Bush attest.

"Overwhelmingly elected?" Bush has never been elected US president ... "overwhelmingly" or otherwise. He and his followers are habitual election thieves.

"I hope that they stop letting you spew?" Look whose talking about spewing. You, a gushing fountain of imperialist propaganda ... day as well as night ... against the DR in spite of your self-avowed "ties" to the country.

IMF does it better than the old "friend"

1814-25 -- US naval ships repeatedly went ashore to attacked in and about Santo Domingo.

1904 -- January 2 to February 11. US naval forces occupied in Puerto Plata, Sosua, and Santo Domingo City.

1914 -- June and July, US naval forces the bombarded of Puerto Plata and threatened to do the same to Santo Domingo City if the city refused to do what the US regime told it.

1916-24 -- May 1916 to September 1924. US naval forces occupied the DR.

1965 -- The US military forces -- this time, naval, army, air force, and of course the savage Marines -- occupied the DR.

These episodes omit US imperialist-instigated assassinations of DR political personalities, coups supervised by US agents in the DR, and a number of US-sponsored mercenary operations in the DR ... like the one in Feb.2004 directed at a third country.

With IMF, there's no need for such violence.

"This is a hold-up, raise your hands."
