Isn't Altagracia the home of the "safe tourist Mecca" Punta Cana and Bavaro?'

How about the number of death caused by the economic violence perpetrate by Lio-nel Fernandez on the Dominican masses. Such as his three outrageous tax increases and the diversion of funds, in violation of the constitution, to the METRO and other non priority spending adventures.

Also consider the innocent deaths because of the lack of medicine and education. Keep the people stupid. Education breeds discontent. We would not have an idiot in office pretending to be a pharaoh. We would have banished the PLD to Cuba long ago.

DR needs to hire Rudy Giuliani as head of the National Police. Look at what did with New York...2200 homicides in 1990...by the time he left office in 2001 the number went down to less than 600....now it's less than 500 a year!!!

Mr. Edward we do not need Giuliani in DR. Giuliani's sucess in NYC was partly due to the increase of income, which is an indication of higher level of education among the population. If you look at the per capital for New Yorkers between 1996 and 2004, it skyrockered. Also, a hughe influx of new companies flocked to NYC making it a viable business district and returning it to the top of cities in the world. As a result, Giuliani enjoyed prosperity and when people are making money and enjoying life, the interest in crime is low. Moreover, ordinary citizens wanting to protect their life style would aid police by reporting crimes and people who are breaking the rules. If you look at those neighborhoods such as bedford styvesant, bushwick, corona, south bronx, washington heights and others were the prosperity did not get to in full blown stage, crime did not improved a whole lot. Compare these areas with others in the borough and you will see the difference. So yes, with out, cont

a good education system which in turns leads to highly skilled people who would hold good jobs and increase their living standards, then crime will cripe in and destroy that society from within. It has been proven before, that prosperity is the main cure for crime infested areas.

Josean, Villa Altagracia is not home to Punta Cana and Bavaro..
You’re way off by several Kilometers

Villa Altagracia is the South Bronx of Santo Domingo provinces’. I recall a time I was driving by and a group of rowdy kids dropped several tires lit on fire onto the highway. I still have nightmares about that.. still waiting for Sergio Vargas el Politico to fix that place up..it’s out of control.

To whom may concern: main reason why resort builders don't go to the other side of the island and close to the other side of the island is because they don't want to have a high risk investment.

DrCiSkoFC states:

"Josean, Villa Altagracia is not home to Punta Cana and Bavaro..

Josean states:

"Isn't Altagracia the home of the "safe tourist Mecca" Punta Cana and Bavaro?"

Now where did Josean mention "Villa Altagracia" the statement said Altagracia:

Isn't it strange that just a few weeks ago the Police Chief had a press release here stating that crime was under control and decreasing. I had many comments to challenge that type of false proproganda used by the National Police in the form of a press release. The police are some of the biggest criminals who extort money from drug dealers to continue operations. Now the organized criminals have a price on the head of some police & DNCD agents because the authorities have not done the job and earned the respect nor created a deterrent to crime.

None criminals committ crime in the open, sell drugs on the streets in broad daylight in poor barrios like Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) of Santiago and when citizens report to police they do nothing but inform the criminals of who turned their names in so now we know we can not trust the police.

This the real DR that the RD Gov allows to perpetuate to a place with limited law & order that exists outside RD resorts.

The laws in New York became much more serious. Quality of Life crimes.
no open containers of beer, automatic one year sentence for unlicense firearms, etc

But my question is: Why is it that Cuba, with all of it's economic problems have crime under control and the highest literacy rate in the Americas (USA included).

Because guns are banned in Cuba and the government takes care of its people. In DR the rich get richer and the poor stay poor. The government must do something to stop the growing inequality. Like investing in more social programs. The DR has a Gini Coefficient of almost 52 and that is unacceptable
