SANTO DOMINGO.- To prepare for the danger from natural phenomena caused by climatic changes in the last few years, and especially those which have affected the country in the last few months, the Emergency Operations Center  (COE) yesterday presented the Plan of Contingency and Earthquake Prevention Campaign.

Although these seismic events cannot be predicted, the COE will provide informative materials titled "I know what to do in case of earthquakes, and you?" with information on what to do before, during and after an event of that nature; following the plan which has implemented in different Caribbean countries.

In the plan the UASD University’s Seismology Institute and the National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Infrastructure and Construction Vulnerability work jointly with COE, and include an audio-visual campaign, in a language which could also be understood by children.

Sismology Institute director Juan Payero said the country uses eight stations in Caribbean countries in addition to those which operate here, four or five of which were affected by the storms Olga and Noel.

COE director Juan Méndez said president Leonel Fernandez ordered the start of the campaign, with partial funding by the Presidency’s Administrative Ministry.

Now that's real smart "include an audio-visual campaign" don't you need electricity to hear and watch these presentations. Oh that's right, the PLD and Lió-nel Fernandez have electrified the whole country and people have electrical service 24 hours a day!

Good point. How many people will actually be able to view it. Hopefully it will be provided to the masses somehow. I like the modern thinking though. You can't knock the PLD for that. I'm sure they will figure out at way so everyone can see it.

It is friday thus a little joke is allowed ...

As president and coordinator of the new plan to mitigate effects of quakes
we have made already the following rules

1) Quakes are only allowed during office hours from monday till friday,
2) Quakes are forbidden during the weekends, at night and holidays
3) Quakes need to be reported at least 2 day before activating
4) The special Quake reporting form can be bought in Santo Domingo , without this form a Quake can not be reported

You can always count on a Serie 23 for a good joke. Excellent!

The only thing I am afraid of is they may actually implement your rules.

I sure see a lot of "off topic" nonsense produced on these pageg, including some of my own.
So, why don't we all start producing some positive references and solutions to the problems that we all know exist?
Wouldn't it be nice if we could get this andfuture Administrationsto read our commentaries and think along the same lines that we do in theresolutions to those problems?
maybe we can "educate" the Legislative bodies and the Ministeries in the process.
If we want change, we must offer alternative solutions to the "Status Quo" in such a manner as to convince the operative authorities that those solutions are viable and desired relative to the current situations.
Put on your thinking caps and start offering those desired solutions. It does no good to critisize without an alternative and viable solution.
That is a given.
Any takers???
