SANTO DOMINGO.- Two prominent businessmen today warned against the "corrosion" which takes Dominican society towards a "poly-mafia" made up of people who’ve "enlisted in politics only to swallow the public budgets, exert influence peddling and establish nests of administrative corruption."
Antonio Isa Conde, former president of the Herrera Industries Association (AEIH), asked the healthy part of society to join efforts to stop the phenomenon they defined as pernicious. "In the political parties, in public institutions, in Government, in business organizations and civil society there are many people with ethical values, clean, non-malleable by corruption, who must rise against that type of poly-mafia."
Ignacio Méndez, president of the Federation of Industrial Associations (FAI), in a statement, said it’s of concern to see how some individuals degrade the political exercise,” placing their interests, articulating dark deals, attempting against the public funds, and a society which seems to have lost its capacity for astonishment.
However Isa and Méndez said not everything’s lost, because in the political organizations there are many people who wouldn’t let an “uncontrolled group of mercenaries stain them with their actions.”
The FAI president called for a “healing force" to join and moralize the public function, "taking into account that corruption swallows the budgetary funds and reduces resources for education, health, feeding and environmental cleanup, key factors to obtain a competitive economy."
"A front must be built against that delinquency, whose effects can be worse than drug trafficking, and it’s necessary to confront the permissive authorities who don’t put a brake on a phenomenon that is damaging the social fabric," Isa said.
He said serious legislators, politicians and officials, those who feel pain for this country, as well as conscientious industrialists, church representatives and civil society which yearn for a better nation, must join to say to that poly-mafia which undermines society’s foundations "enough already".

One bourgeois thief says sanctimoniously to another one "Don't steal any more. Leave something for the rest of us to steal."
Antonio Isa Conde remarks seem slanted in favor of the bourgeois opposition in the ongoing presidential race "Leonel, you've had two turns to steal, so retire and give somebody else a chance."
V. Lenin properly called bourgeois democracy a pigsty. It's heartwarming to hear that some pigs want to clean up the sty.

As an additional commentary, your reference to Srs. Conde and Mendez as being sanctimonious is one which reflects your own attitude toward others and to your plagiarized remarks.
You are undoubtedly unfit to be a member of the Human Race, but allude to that state through a sadly misplaced super ego.

People will rise to the level of expectation. I know the people of the D.R. know already of what this man is saying. His words of action are not strong enough. Stating the problems are easy to do at this point. To change this countries problems, is to change the expectation level of its people. A low level of expectation is what the people face now. Raise the bar to that of the level of what other poor nations who rose above corruption and a bad economy.Examples are those of asian nations who are developing at a faster pace then the D.R. Bussinesses there, did not rely on gov'ment to fund education nor training of their people. They take matters into their own hands. I am sure that this man is investing part of his personal wealth towards education and training of the people of the D.R. However I believe many of the wealthy do not invest in the education of the poor. Also goes for all people living in developed nations abroad who do not wish to invest in education of 3rd world nations.

These comments are all well known to the dominican society, and to the rest of the world. What type of "front" is Antonio Isa Conde talking about? An armed front, gerrilla style? Or maybe another political party? (Just like the rest of dozens of corrupted parties). These comments are no-news to me and to whoever follows dominican politics. The only solution to stop corruption, bad politics, and the rest of illnesses inherited deep within our DNA is to stop supporting these politicians and political parties. Abstination from voting is the only solution.

"Abstination from voting is the only solution."
0000
This is the fundamental principle of anarachist ideology; but this principle is badly flawed.
The people must use all methods of struggle -- electoral, legislative, administrative, judicial, economic, ideological, and, perhaps, armed struggle under a dictatorship -- to change the form of the state from a sham to an authentic democracy and to change the content of the state from bourgeois [regardless of the the form] to proletarian.
Abstention by the people from voting or desertion from the electoral struggle inflames the corruption and rotteness of the bourgeois state because bourgeois officials have no reason to fear the proletarian voters since they don't vote.
The problem in the DR is not the exercise of the franchise, rather it is the sorry ideological and political composition of the electorate, which presently is only a minority of the DR people.
The people need organization and proletarian ideology.

Not much more than what he just plagarized from Lenin, Marx, Hegel and Engel.
That which he posted is obviously plagarized since it is os a vastly different sentence structure then his previous posts. Therefore, he MUST be either quoting someone else, or paraphrasing from some already written document.
I can't imagine him extracting such from his own brain(???) for our edification.
Additionally, he has misstated the "anarchy" code. Anarchy is the ABSENCE of ANY FORM of Government, resulting in COMPLETE CHAOS and is insupportable by ANY civilized society.
I just wish that man could get his definitions correct just ONCE. he'd be a lot better off.
Hey, Belial, the U of H has some VERY GOOD professors in Economics, Political Science and Sociology. Why don't you enroll an expand your mind with some BASICS in the Humanities???

"Anarchy is the ABSENCE of ANY FORM of Government, resulting in COMPLETE CHAOS and is insupportable by ANY civilized society," TB at last says something that has the semblance of at least partial accuracy.

The absence of any form of government is the end at which anarchism generally aims and this end is indeed a part of anarchism.
Abstention from voting and withdrawal from other political activities are means by which this end is pursued by anarchism and these means are indeed a part of anarchism, too.
Contrary to your belief, most anarchists don't believe that complete chaos will result from the disappearance of government. Rather most anrchists believe that complete chaos results from the existence of government. The case of Florida in the USA is a good example.
By the way, do you call society in most of the USA "civilized?"
Yes, UH is a very fine bourgeois school.

" a society which seems to have lost its capacity for astonishment." UUFFF! that one was below the belt.. its a noble attempt to grab the interest of the people, but short of a head-turner.. the man must be given credit for stepping up to the plate - it would be unrealistic to expect a home run -- but a step in the right direction nonetheless ..
to Belial : you are talking as if the possibility of absolute equality is feasible (in the short-run) in DR. We all want to see a more transparent and pure democracy however our current state does not allow for a sudden change of such magnitude.. I would categorize mr Mendez's denunciations as baby-steps towards that goal, but even when that goal is reached, the elites on top will alwasy have control or impose their will... even in a pure democracy! so for a man like Mendez , a businessman (who are usually the most corrupt - they do dirty work for politicians) to go against the grain, it has to be a step in the right direction..

Most of the comments posted here look and sound like they are coming from people who do not have any knowledge of the dominican situation. Most writings only portray the need of some to sound "sophysticated." Bunch of imitators of the white supremacy.

This is the first time I've visited this page, and I must say that regardless of the stand most of you have taken on this issue -- there are some excellent points of view expressed. Some, albeit, very skewed in one direction or another -- but overall some very sound discussions. For a humble Cibaeno like me -- this is refreshing to see. I guess I shall seek to join you all.
