Let's have the guts this time and show this people who's in charge, Is so ridiculous that haitians want some kind of certification from an international regulation commission (Sorry) but forgot the name, so they could buy chickens and eggs from DR.
This is a very nonsense issue to argue about it (Why in the heck) this damn goverment wants to be so diplomatic sometimes.
If our former president Joaquin Balaguer would be alive this issue would be solved by the book.
"Cry baby cry"
From: United States, Spring Valley, NY
Seems like the only person thats crying here is you JRRubirosa. Ever since this event started, you been on here crying, mouning and complaining(I want to use another description but obviously cannot) about the Haitian government trying to protect the lives of its people. The fact of the matter is that if it were the opposite, you would be complaining of how these Haitians cannot control their border and now their infecting your people with the "Avian Flu Virus". Its about time the Haitian government shows some "You know what" and stops conceeding to every demand that the Dominicans throws at them. Now lets see if my response get posted.
From: Dominican Republic
While it is the Haitian governments right to demand such certification in light ofthereports, that government is using this outbreak as an excuse to negotiate more favorable results in the international arena vis-a-vis the immigration of its citizens andin mitigation of actions being taken over thier illegal immigrants within the DR's borders. This reluctance by Haitian Officials to "lift the ban" is merely a vehicle by which they hope to gain a better negotiating position.
One of the solutions would be to freeze the excess production of chickens and eggs and cycle that production periodically into the Dominican market. That would level the market and create a stable price overall. A "Use By "date and intense inventory control would have to established to assure quality of the product to the consumer.
It could be done, but would require good management of the system to forestall an epidemic of botulism and samonella in thepublic arena.
TB
From: United States
As TB states, the Haitian government has the right to prohibit the importation of any product it considers to be unsafe. While I agree that Haiti's government might have a hidden agenda, there is no doubt at all the threat of Asian Flu is real. Other countries have destroyed entire flocks of birds that have been even remotely in contact with this disease. Many countries have excluded the importation of any suspect fowl products. Haiti does not have a lot of leverage in trade negoiations, so who can blame them for using this legitimate issue. I think the immediate and angry reaction from jrrubirosa is suspiciously over-the-top and disingenuous. It seems to be just one more rant against Haiti, submitted by a person who obviously has a hidden agenda of his own.

the outbreak of a disease such as avian flu cannot be taken lightly. no modern society has a dismissive approach to this kind of issue. witness the closure last year of the biggest producer of ground meat in the usa, Topps, following an outbreak of e coli, which was traced to its products. it is a dereliction of duty for Haiti to allow any food products suspected of being tainted, to enter its territory. no other country would do so, and neither should Haiti. TB might have a point about hidden agendae, but that is speculative; bird flu is real. as to JRRubirosa; why does anyone bother to respond to his thoughts?

Alas, that lower price that you're expecting, mr. Bizc8, may be wishful thinking, because, as a common practice, the dominican merchants prefer to let their products rot or burn before ever lowering their prices. Or worse, they'd invent a lot of other petty excuses to rise the prices again.

dreadlocks, I understand your frustration with jrrubirosa, but his particularly virulent diatribes are dangerous, and have to be exposed logically and methodically. We can not overlook that kind of hatred. Left unchallenged that idiocy becomes a cancerous contaminant. Hopefully reasonable people will prevail, but you don't have to look back in history too far to find numerous examples of unchallenged dogma infecting some of the most advanced societies. But I don't want to sound like I respond to his half-baked opinions solely for noble reasons. I just can't pass up an opportunity to beat up the bullies. Ever since I reached that point in my life when I was able to inflict a little damage on my own, I have savored every chance to punish the evil-doers, even though words are my only weapons. Sometimes I feel a little quilty though. Most bullies do not posess the mental capacity to defend themselves. They tend to be very weak intellectually, once called out and exposed for what they are.
From: United States
Davidjule, i could not agree with you more. it is a constant with internet bullies; they all have very little intellectual foundation, and ,as you know, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.they all seem to see themselves as authorities on a subject, and refuse to accept any challenges to their position.they see themselves as the gatekeepers to that particular field of knowledge, and set themselves up as umpires in the posting exercise. they are all, without exception, exposed as persons of minimal intellectual weight. and, without fail, they cannot defend themselves in the face of questions regarding data and methodology. thankfully, they generally wither away with a whimper.

Before you claim that the Haitians are blackmailing the D.R. , please provide proof to back it up. The fact of the matter is that your Government has done more worse things to the Haitian Gov't than blackmail. One of these is providing a terrorist group called the "FRAPH", which was led by Lois J. Chamblaine, and Guy Phillipe assylum in your country in which they plotted their subversive acts on the Republic of Haiti... So quite frankly JRRubirosa, if the Haitians are using this issue to blackmail your government, its really not a big deal because countries to that to each other even though it is wrong and unethical.

Some of the loud exclamations posted by rubirosa would be humerous if it weren't for their nasty and racist tone. His blatant racism aside, it is quite a difficult task decyphering his rants, so that one can unearth any point he is attempting to make. If the point of his latest post is that Haiti is leveraging the issue of asian flu to its adavntage, well, yes, they most certainly are. In the same way that every other country in the world does. jrrubirosa, I can tell you do care about the DR, as I do. I think it is a wonderful country, which is why I became a resident. Now I am a citizen of both the countries. When someone speaks against either country my immediate reaction is to become defensive. However, I have learned that often the criticisms have some validity. Neither the US nor the DR is perfect . Both countries have had, or now have, leaders who have mislead our countries. So now I try to hear what is being said before I react. I can understand your react ion to someone unjustly attacking the DR. But you must realize that not every criticism is an attack. Sometimes people just want to get to the truth. I'll make a deal with you. If you will take the time to evaluate what is actually being said with an open mind and react to it without the rancor and racism, I will do the same when I read your posts. When you are reasonable I will support you. In other words, you respect others and I will respect you.

Avian Flu is a very real threat. The DR gov't is showing weakness and retaliation, a clear sign of ignorance. The DR is trying to force Haiti to accept products it feels isn't in its interests at the moments. The health risk is very real despite what the USDA says. As some have mentioned, several countries have completely annihilated their poultry farms and destroyed eggs simply because the virus was suspected. I'm content Haiti didn't quickly cave in to the DR's demands. We have our own interests much the same way you do. I don't understand what the big commotion is about. Its actually rather simple, the Haitian minister of Health himself has said that all Haiti merely wants is a certificate that the farm is clean by an international health organization. If the DR can acquire this, problem resolved.

Just let the Island be what It really is, one Island. Avian Flu does not know borders anyway, open the border, in twenty yrs you wont even notice the difference anyway.
The sooner Dominicans accept their reality the better for every one. For that to happen, mr. Perception, you'll have to ask one of the two states to disband itself, that means, dissolving its bureaucratic corps, armed forces and the like, and relinquishing prerrogatives, while the other takes over all the obligations (and the added benefits of an increased income in terms of the creation of new provinces, arrondissements, sections, etc.) for the whole island. I don't know how things function in Haiti with the employment levels in the public sector, but in the DR, a sizeable part of the population get their everyday bread by working (or being attached in anyway whatsoever as a botella) to a post on the public sector, so the person, organization or state that would ask them to relinquish their post for the pursuance of some idealistic mission without assuring them that they'll have another way of getting an income would be asking for some serious trouble indeed.
From: United States
I agree with Lautaro. At this point in time, to say Hispanola should be one country is like saying the world should be one big happy family. It would be nice if it were possible, but, of course, it is not. Uniting Haiti and the DR would take such an enormous amount of time, effort, money, and redistribution of manpower, and would create so much social disruption that it simply isn't worth the undertaking. A more realistic approach is for people from both countries to find ways to build alliances, either through trade, mutual educational efforts, or cross-border fraternal organizations. It is much more productive to start small and work up. Baby steps.

zinglindou, that must be a huge change for you, moving from Haiti to Canada. The weather alone must present you with some major adjustments, to say nothing of all the cultural differences. I agree with your statement regarding the thugs taking over in Haiti. It is very unfortunate for the good and honest people to see that happening and feeling powerless to stop it. It also should be a lesson and a wake up call to those of us living in other countries. I witnessed a similar situation in Costa Rica, and I am sure there are many other places where the quality of life is severely diminished by rampant crime. People everywhere should be taking measures to ensure crime is kept in check. It does not take long for a society to reach the critical tipping point, when crime becomes the norm, not the exception. It can occur seemingly over night if you are not aware enough to stop it. The meek may well inherit the earth, but it won't be worth much if we don't forcefully fight the criminal element.

I think Dominican Republic got there independence due to the differences and should stay that way but should come together to improve conditions and quality of life for the whole island. Since I been commenting on this forum and reading your responses, I find it clear that when it comes to Haitians/Haiti you have nothing positive to say. Now despite that fact, I really have not paid much attention to your constant rant. What you just said in the above comment, in which you described Haiti's heroes(Dessaline & Boyer) as rapist, is utterly disgusting. You mean to tell me the people who started the fight to free the world from slavery are "rapist". I can take your bashing and thrashing of Haiti sir, but this I will not accept. To mr. jabao: I didn't know about the difference in the exchange rate between the peso and the gourde, so thanks for the info. Back on the topic at hand, I agree with you that the best for the future of the island would be for the two nations to ally in some sort of confederacy, because that way, binational plans would implement themselves without the usual bureaucratic nightmare.
To perception: Cyprus, on the mediterranean sea, fits the case in 100%. FYI the turkish and greece populations of the island have been at odds with each other for centuries, the same case as in Haiti/DR. Those populations have gone as far as having armed clashes with the respective support of their "mother countries" (Greece and Turkey), the same way that Haiti/DR have bickered between themselves with the connivance of the european powers behind the conflict (France and Spain). Itsn't this paralell enough for you?

And just when I thought it was safe to go in the water.... man, you guys are like sharks. In the words of Roberto Durant, no mas! I have to admit everyone has been able to dish out some pretty good humor. I had to laugh several times reading these posts. But I think you have to agree that it was getting a little out of hand. Let's stick with the issues of trade and the two-nation island, and leave all the other stuff out of it. Also, I'll state for the record that even though rjrubirosa is obnoxious and rude, he made me laugh too. So I guess all of us have some good points, even rjrubirosa. I think I can speak for W.A.S.P.s everywhere when I say, anuses are all the same under the skin, whether in Port-au-Prince or Puerta Plata, an anus is an anus, it is as clear as black and white.

Rubirosa, I hope your not Porfirio descendant, because he will be ashame of you. I remember the good times when your kind, "Comesolos", used to mow my yard, clean my car, drive me around and do errands for me. But somebody decided to give your kind a chance, and we all can see the results, everyone from your towns invade Santo Domingo.

I will give you the pleasure and satisfaction to figure out why I do have this exotic last name.
Regarding people doing your errands, cleaning your car and doing all other chores, don't understand your self esteem issues but if that make you feel happy and VIP let me believe You sir or miss.
Good for You that you are or were wealthy may the universe let you enjoy all your personal satisfaction.
I do admit on my side that I have an ego personality but on your side don't get the point.

I agree. I mean, both of you completely ignored the funnest bit ever posted in the history of comment posting simply so you could continue fighting. You just can't overlook masterful comedy like this. Something must be done. There's got to be some kind of law or SOMETHING!

To Lautaro: with all due respect and civilization towards you I don't really mind anybody given out their opinions in this forum because at the end everybody is a human being.
What everybody has to see in this post is that respect, class and place is gained by the way you approach other races ideas and culture.
to Mr Lautaro: once again I deeply apologize but see for yourself that sometimes regardless of what you want to respect and follow, others don't do and won't compromise.
But You know what I will really respect your advice to show everybody some class and perfection of human being behavior.

That would be the truth IF and only if Haiti were to achieve the same economical, political and social stability levels that the DR is showing right now (notwithstanding the more than evident faults). Sadly, while Haiti have come to achieve some sort of social peace right now, it still have a lot of other issues to tackle. Until then, I'll have to disagree with you unperceptive and still regard Cuba as the one remaining on top in the Caribbean, and it will remain so even more after the Cubans get their transition to free markets on the way.

This Wall Behind We Hide...
"HISPANOLA"
by Wilgeens Rosenberg
Between you and I,
There is this wall.
A resentment before our eyes,
An embarrassment to the world.
Behind this wall is you and I.
Not you or I alone,
But all that is mean and nice
Is why we never get along.
Between you and I,
There are now many secrets.
So are inks of our combined pride
Our pasts which may have many regrets.
But behind this wall is you and I.
Our glories and shame.
The love and hate we share and hide,
But still the worries are the same.
With this wall, we hide only Hispanola.
Note: This is as certain as the sun will come out tomorrow !!!!

As people on the street would say: "A cada loco con su tema". Keep fighting windmills, unperceptive, so that someday you may end up as the Quixote: completely disillusioned, with a melancholic return to sanity and renunciation of chivalry, and finally, with death.
This is a very nonsense issue to argue about it (Why in the heck) this damn goverment wants to be so diplomatic sometimes.
If our former president Joaquin Balaguer would be alive this issue would be solved by the book.
"Cry baby cry"
One of the solutions would be to freeze the excess production of chickens and eggs and cycle that production periodically into the Dominican market. That would level the market and create a stable price overall. A "Use By "date and intense inventory control would have to established to assure quality of the product to the consumer.
It could be done, but would require good management of the system to forestall an epidemic of botulism and samonella in thepublic arena.
TB
You always have something negative to say. It's clear that you are full of discrimination. And it's people like you that give Dominicans a bad name. Does it bother you that Haitians have rights or is it just one sided..
MR. TexasBill is the only one that saw the BIG PICTURE this is not about business or that haitian goverment care about their population but about a hidden political agenda and BLACKMAILING.
Like always these haitians are so nearsighted and don't get my point.
Im going to mention for the 20th time (HAITIANS HAVE 100% THEIR RIGHT TO STOP) chicken and eggs from DR to be imported to their country..................EVERYBODY HAPPY NOW.
What you are wrong is with your BLACKMAILING technique and therefore read and analize CAREFULLY my UNBIASED comments.
Every country has a right to protect is citizens and its sovereignity, but is like when this newpaper post any sensitive topic about haitians in DR and everybody from Haiti starts crying like babies.
Don't push our president too much He might me very diplomatic with Haiti but He is not DUMB.
Somebody else would be a pain in the neck (no that I don't like diplomatic understanding).
But TOO MUCH of something could be very toxic.
Let's clarify something BUDDY if You want to debate with me I will be more than happy to debate ANYTHING with you for 100 YEARS.
Whatever PLOT you mentioned happened during the PRD goverment not this one and also
keep in mind that They were very pro haitians (PENA GOMEZ) and besides that Milagros o Bosch wanted to adopt Sonia Pierre whe the current goverment tried to stripped her from her fake Dominican citizenship.
Don't see the connection between BLACKMAILING right now and PLOT back then (These are 2 separate issues. I don't get your logical point.
But Haiti wants an international health entity to certify, check, endorse, proof, re-endorse, and do quality control tests so They could be sure that everything is FINE.
If You don't get it now please check your brain cells......................
Will love nicknames like (RACIST, COMMUNIST, ANTI-HAITIAN or whatever everybody feels happy)
but now speaking on business same right that any haitian might have to defend their country same right I have too.
I mentioned once that RACISM is a 2 faces token not just one face token, HAITIANS take for granted that They could come to this blog and express all their concerns whichever way They pleased.
Is not only haitians story that has to be heard only, We Dominicans have rights, concerns and feelings too.
To give you a simple example if you or anybody else want to believe.
What I was supposed to do according to you (100% white, pure and american principles) shut up and let the high percentage of haitians to disrespect his memory or have the guts or (COJONES) to step up and tell them that i care and feel for my legacy and my ancestors.
The sooner Dominicans accept their reality the better for every one. These Hispaniola slaves ancestor (What you call Haitians) free themselves to the wrong area of the Island anyway, they figure out that to late now. Its fair to say, at the end of the day this people are Dominicans anyway, you see in the US we have different cultures, hill billys, rednecks, big cities whittis, getho guys, indians, chicanos, blakys, NewyorkRican, Dominican York an on, and we all share the greatest country of all, watch more TV and let these people get with their lives, Dominicans are lacy anyway, and these people work hard.
If you guys need more information about Avian Flu I suggest get your facts at this link (Hispaniola not listed)
http://www.who.int/csr/disease/av....es_table_2008_01_30/en/index.html
Is like asking USA to return all the land that they took away from mexicans or make just one country: UNITED STATES OF MEXICO.
HOLY S..T, how many lunatics in here May God help and understand your disorganized thinking.
Or like asking Canada and the US to make one country too: UNITED STATES OF CANADA
Is good for haitians to unite hispaniola when They have destroyed everything on their side of the island and We have well preserved forests, beaches, rivers and lots of investments from Japan, Spain and Germany (Not the USA) the biggest investors in DR are Spain and Japan.
Also at least Spain is taking care of us the way France should be taking care of Haiti.
Everybody is happy at the end that is a very good news, Carlos M Troncoso did a great job dealing with Venezuela.
JRRubirosa,
You sound like an extremist, how do you sleep at night? sadly to say very well I bet. This is not trade issue, this is a health issue. If the DR citizen don't care how this virus got to one of their Poultry farm and worst they refuse to investigate it make me wonder if any country can trust goods coming from DR. You need to take it easy there is more to life than this... now take 4 deep breath, exhale slowing after each now see this makes you feel much better now. VIVA LA REPUBLICA HAITI, VIVA LA REPUBLICA DOMINICANA, our brother whether anyone likes it or not :-)
Let's clarify something once again, Dominican Republic already checked, double checked. triple checked and did all quality control standards procedures available in the market, besides We went to the USDA to get a second opinion and outcome was that there was not major incident or issue regarding this matter.
So what people like You and haitians want from DR to cry, apologize, feel remorse for something that is already fixed and showed to the internationtal community that is not being cover up.
I sleep like a baby at night because I go to the Gym, take good supplements and take care of my body by the book, also drink good Jameson (irish whiskey) and good cigars.
The issue is over and therefore close, Do You think That Venezuela once again didn't check to make sure the trade would be in good faith.
At the end the winners are Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
Justice will prevail at the end at You might be the one with the depression not me, People like you make me sick in the stomach because You think You are the Smartass and think that your points of view come from a PHD.
I think You are the one that mentioned that came from new england, protestant , anglosaxon and whatever, I tried to respect you and believe that you are who you are.
But in a discussion table You are nobody competing with me, I would give you the facts and You will give me misleading information.
JRRubirosa = Comesolo = Poultry, I know you're kind, I can profile by reading you, just a tipical Dominican nobody, entilted by your Master (Leonel), and probably not sure of his sexuality, selfish, taking advantage of ignorance, manipulative, and always hidding in the shades, and this is very typical of a frustrated person that cannot identify himself with common reality. I will recommend you to reivent yourself, and rub yourself with a little black shoe polish!!!!!!!!
1- Saint Martin (Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten) - Between the Collectivity of Saint Martin (61%) and the Netherlands Antilles (an autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; 39%)
2- Cyprus, which is partitioned between Greece and Turkey
3- Borneo - Among Indonesia (70%), Malaysia (25%), and Brunei (5%)
4- New Guinea - Between Indonesia (50%) and Papua New Guinea (50%)
5- Ireland - Between the Republic of Ireland (83%) and the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland; 17%)
6- Tierra del Fuego - Between Chile (50%) and Argentina (50%)
7- Timor - Between Indonesia (53%) and East Timor (47%)
8- Usedom/Uznam - Between Germany (84%) and Poland (16%)
Aren't these enough for you? :-)
I'm 100% pro Leonel Fernandez, Pro PLD, Pro Dominican All the way and comesolo too.
I'm not hiding in my shades because always show to everybody the way I think CLEAR and honest.
Also keep for yourself your RACIST comments about Juan Pablo Duarte you are nobody to
disrespect his memory.
If you want to talk about History look at your past too Miss Perception because to my knowledge Boyer and Dessalines were the biggest haitian women and children rapist.
Leonel Fernandez and the current goverment have done everything possible so Haitians should have all good conditions with the international community (UN).
You didn't read it yet but is already in the media and Yes indeed Dominicans will trade chickens and eggs for oil with our brothers and sisters from Venezuela.
We do have a very strong bond with Venezuela and Carlos M Troncoso did an outstanding job this week dealing with this business issue.
The IRA is fighting for the Irish unity and freedom, on the other side the protestant army on Belfast, Northern island is the one that wants to divide Ireland in 2.
"Sunday bloody Sunday" song from the best band in this planet U2.
I read daily english and spanish newspapers and is surprising all the EXCELLENT posts that dominicans have in NY; from the best doctors, to polticians, to judges, to Business owners.
HOLY COW.............................................................. I can't laugh anymore to your childish comments
There is a 2 ways token with the "RACISM" word is not only about blacks but white people can be discriminated too dear know everything.
Haitians discriminate light skin in Haiti(Isn't this discrimination too), OH no disriminations is only about BLACK, BLACK. BLACK people .
You went really deep on this one, I will give you good credit because I guess you grab one of your buddies in Port au princ.
Can Haitians find out any other topic to talk about it that has nohing to do with being black and white.
Why not talk about improving people expectations, health issues, how to improve the goverment, how to develop energy resources, how to replenish all the forest in Haiti.
If you wanted to make a point to "Miss Perception" do it without denouncing Haiti heroes. These men may have had numerous faults within their character but degrading them as rapist is a spit in the face of the countless millions of people(Haitians & Non-Haitians) who regard them as honorable. What you did sir is the same thing as defacing the flag of my birth-nation and my culture. I expect an apology from you.
I apologize yo You once again but at the end I expect the same respect from anybody calling names to our founding father.
Haitians know a lot about our history But at the same time I do know a lot about your history
Word "Respect" goes both ways and I will NEVER mention Dessalines or Boyer as long as I wouldn't being disrespected and insulted in the first place.
I already showed You my "Education" now let's see how well your fellow people behave with their apologies towards our founding father.
Thank you. I think we all can come on this site discuss the article at hand without demeaning each others culture and country. This means that all my fellow Haitians and those who support the Haitian people should stop degrading D.R. and their fouding Father, Juan Pablo Duarte. Dominicans on the other hand should stop degrading Haiti and its heroes. Like many of these men, we all have faults and misjudgement that permeates within us. Let the legacy of Dessaline, Boyer, and Duarte rest in peace. Focus on the article only "you guys". -Peace!!
But once again "Love and Peace"
ANSWER: No. I did my research when I was living at DR! Thats when I experienced it, with my
EX-WIFE, mother of one of my sons, and believe me she looks very light to me.
