SANTO DOMINGO.- The National District 3rd Collegiate Court today continues the criminal trial against the ex banker Pedro Castillo, charged with defrauding the Progreso bank out of more than RD$14.0 billion.

The judges Alina Mora, Rafael Pacheco and Natividad Ramona de los Santos will hold separate hearings today and Thursday.

Castillo is accused of fraud against Progreso and its directors, as well as breach of trust, money laundering, payout of fictitious dividends, and breaking the laws that regulate securities and the monetary and financial system.

He also faces a trial in a court of Miami, on charges of stealing from the accounts of Progreso and its related companies and transfering them to banks in Florida.

Somebody that actually had an account and was defrauded needs to personally file a complaint or these guys if they are convicted at all will walk like the others because the Just-us Ministry prosecutor will suddenly (after being paid off) will lose interest and release them. Is it "Groundhog Day" or what?

Why do we continue wasting money on these "show"trials? It is a foregone conclusion that these crooks like the other bank thieves before them will either be released for "lack of evidence" or convicted and then released at the suggestion of the prosecutor. What a game.

There's a difference this time....this is the first time that a Dominican bank's shareholders are pursuing these methods to bring down the people who screwed them from within. In other words, payback's a bitch. The difference here is that unlike Baninter and Bancredito, Progreso Bank has a variety of shareholders from different families and conglomerates. Baninter had the Baez family and Bancredito the Pellerano family as the main shareholders. If Progreso would've failed as well, this would've plunged the economy into something worse and would've added to the financial woes caused by Baninter. All cause of Hipolito's son-in-law......slick bastard, very intelligent too....
