Bonao.- A U.S. military helicopter yesterday landed in the rural community Caribe, to provide humanitarian aid, operation that included the remodeling of a doctor's clinic.

New roofs, water storage system, furniture, fans, paint, bathrooms and other facilities were improved, thanks to the task force of U.S. soldiers, part of the mission “Continuous promise 2008," a crew of 1,500 marines, engineers and doctors who came to the country September 4 aboard the U.S. Navy ship Kearsarge.

The boat ends its stay in the country today, said Captain Fernandez Pons, who noted that the services cost millions of dollars. "We cannot put a price on the relationship between friends, but this operation in the Dominican Republic has cost about US$13.5 million."

I am proud to see my tax dollars going to work to do some good! I know these people in this area needs all the help they can get (because the RD Gov does not care). So, it is good to see some positive news because the Dominican society does not have a better friend and ally than the USA which is validated in events such as this as well as the millions in AID. As an American tax payer, I would expect much better support from the RD Gov on mutual issues of interests such as free trade which allows poor Dominicans to pay the lowest prices for the best goods (instead of merchants price gouging), or more RD support on anti-corruption and the drug war etc.

It is sad to see Dominican citizens so frustrated they will take to the high seas to leave the RD but knowing they could very well lose their lives in a weak Yola on the high seas. There is a loss of hope because the RD Gov has a habitual failure!

What are the odds that the Russian Ship doesn't even make it?

Remember this is the same ship that the Russians admited a few years ago was about to explode.

I am sure there will be co-operation among the free people in the World to help the Russian Navy overcome whatever problems it may have. threre are strong historic ties between these nations and even when Stalin was in power the UK, for example, released designs to Russia to assist in the development of jet engines. A strong Russia is one guarantee of freedom for the World, At present US military spend is nine times greater than the next largest spender. Russian military ships are welcome visitors to UK and French ports. Russian military planes are now again patrolling the Atlantic to ensure freedom. You are right - the US has considerable potential to cause great suffering and great bravery will be neededi in the future to counter agression.

The dollars fleeing Venezuela is amazing. Every day 100's get off the plane at Miami International Airport with CASH.

Even rats know when to flee a sinking ship.
