SANTO DOMINGO. – Since 7 a.m. Monday six divers of Naval Intelligence (M-2) look for the barrel of a M-16 rifle with which seven Colombians were allgedly assassinated in Baní the night of August 4.
Naval Intelligence director admiral Edwin Dominicci heds the search, using two boats near the Santo Domingo Aquarium, Santo Domingo East.
Dominicci said although the rifle was broken in three parts, the divers search for the barrel to do a ballistics test using one of the bullets that killed one of the foreigners.

Otherwise it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Even if they do find the barrel the ballistic test will probably not be definite as corrosion in sea water
will start deforming and rusting the grooves of the barrel after just a few days and it would not be feasible to make any kind of definitive ballistic tests because the barrel signature will change and/or the barrel will not be operational to be fired.
Seems like a long shot to me, unless they were also trying to look for the serial number of the weapon to see if it could be traced to military sources.
The buck stops at the top
if it is in 3 peaces that means they have the barrel the stock and the bult in different locations. one way yo destroy it is to freeze it then dip it into hot boiling water. the would cause the barrel to warp...
and since they used a M-16 means that it must have been supplied by the military.
No it won't!

M16 is not hard to destroy. My unit destroyed a couple ...
now the HK416 thats a rifle
The HK416 rules! That's a sexy mother, my tongue is out.
Take a look at another sexy piece......the TAVOR
Francis would have loved to have had one of these!
Of course with the M-203 40 mm grenade launcher in the bottom.

I just don't like the .223 cartridge.
Given a choice I would rather carry a FN-FAL in the bush and an .45 Sub-gun in an urban enviroment.
HK make great guns they are just way overpriced and butt ugly.
Weight is the big problem with your choices on both counts.
Reasoning behind the .223 was weight because soldiers could carry lot more ammo.
And long range shots over 300 meters are not usual so to carry the extra weight of a .308 (or 7.62mm Nato round) didn't make a lot of sense in the field.
FAL is also a heavy and long mother to carry in the bush.
.45 Thompson is a rear heavy antique with limited range. 9mm is a better choice
and much lighter as well as faster.
HK are ugly and expensive as all german guns but very efficient.
The Russian AK round is thicker and more efficient.
Sorry but I am a big guy and can carry around a FAL with no problems. G.I.s did ok with the M1 Garand and that is a heavy mother.
The 9mm round is not a stopper.
The .45 is. Most Sub Machine guns can be chambered for .45
Check out tis bad boy

H^K makes one as well

Of course there is also the tried and true M-3 Grease Gun. Among others.

I even got to shoot an UZI chambered for .45 once.
Even big guys get tired after carrying 10 pounds all day long, versus 6 pounds.
.40 caliber is a better round than .45 and advanced 9 mm ammo is very lethal compared to old loads,
plus is readily available anywhere in the world (logistics).
The reasoning that created the .45 was the bolo uprising in the Phillipines as the marines were using the old .38 special round against them with little effect.
Ice Pick(9mm) will kill ya.
Bowling Ball(.45) will knock you down.
If somebody is shooting at me I want to stop him from doing that.
Give me the Bowling Ball.
BTW The grease gun in its M-3A1 form is an excellent weapon for what it was made for,
Cheap, Reliable, Compact and reliable.
