NEW YORK.- Real estate dealer Luis Eduardo Rodriguez Cordero (Eduardito), who plead guilty on two charges of conspiracy, money laundering and drug trafficking on August 13, will be sentenced today by judge Kimba M. Wood in South District Federal Court.
Rodriguez is the second most important of the 21 arrested in the Qurino Paulino case, whose 1,386 kilos of cocaine makes it the country’s largest drug bust. He negotiated a lower sentence with federal prosecutors, by admitting his guilt to the accusations.
After firmly keeping the plea of “not guilty” since in February, 2004 when DEA agents arrested him outside a pool hall in Upper Manhattan, “Eduardito’s” previous lawyer Linda George had stated that “the government of the United States doesn’t have anything against my client,” decided to plea-bargain when faced with the evidence presented against him.
Several attempts to get the judge to set bail for him failed.
Although the plea-bargaining with the prosecutor mulls a “benevolent” sentence, federal law requires a minimum 10 years in prison in these cases, including time served.

Go to hell... Go directly to hell.
If the judicial system of the Dominican Republic lets the Bani boys go, I wish the pox on them.
" the federal law requires a minimum 10 years in prison in these cases, including time served."
So they give him the minimum of 10 yrs. He's been in for 4 years already.
Since it includes time served, he'll be out within months, as long as he's been behaving himself.
Not a bad deal at all.
Let's see what Qurino Paulino gets...
I have NO respect for the level of corruption of the RD judicial process, local police, DNCD and the RD Gov officials (where the buck stops). All this is taking place on both HippoLoco & Prez LF watch.
In the past five years, I have seen more good kids become drug addicts in the Santiago barrio of Ensanche Caonabo (Los Platanitos).
Ain't that guy supposed to be in jail?
He in for a solid 6 more years.... No time off for good behavior...
drug traffickers, corrupt politicians can just go free and act like nothing happened.
And "society" will not condone them but brown nose them because they still have kept their money well hidden and available.
Quirino Paulino rose from poverty and made his fortune concentrating on mostly illegal drug related
businesses.
Sadly the drug business is harmful to the society as it promotes carelessness, laziness and alcohol
related side effects such as absentia from work as well as harmful stress on the liver, heart and vital organs acting as a stimulant for rushes that will have to be paid back sooner or later.
Quirino broke the law and got caught "in fraganti" so he must pay. But also must pay the other big wheel Santiago and other cities big
business men that are involved should be in the can too.
