SANTO DOMINGO.- National District mayor Roberto Salcedo yesterday said the Greater Santo Domingo City Councils Federation prepares, with the Environment Ministry’s support, all the logistics necessary to begin a comprehensive cleanup of the Ozama and Isabela rivers at the end of this month, to reduce pollution in those waterways.

He said the Navy is outfitting the boats that’ll be used in the cleanup of both rivers, which have high pollution levels from the waste and chemicals dumped by people and companies that reside and operate on their banks

He said the Federation, the Navy and Environment aim to clean and dredge all the gorges that end up at the Ozama and Isabela rivers.

Salcedo said in a second phase the Government and businesses will be asked to cooperate and begin to evict and relocate the families who live in high risk zones along those rivers.

this statement sounds altruistic but you can interchange high value for high risk as well ........ "Salcedo said in a second phase the Government and businesses will be asked to cooperate and begin to evict and relocate the families who live in high risk zones along those rivers.

Why always criticizing all environmental proposals from the Government? Are you guys Haitians? Do you like living in an environmental disaster? Stop whinning and let somebody do something! Cleaning the rivers and removing the intelopers is a must for STO DGO in order to restore the environment within the surburs and avoid the poor from moving in and holding the Government hostage everytime a natural calamity occurs around the Ozama/Isabella rivers for money and housing!

At least if Roberto Salcedo says he's going to do it, there's a good chance it will get done.

This guy is one of the best things that's ever happened to Santo Domingo. It's amazing what you can do when you're not a politician.

"Yeah well nothing happened when we had the Merengue jackass for a mayor"

Lie-onel to Chauncey, parphrasing FDR:

Yes Chuancey he is a Meregune jackass, but he is OUR Merengue jackass now!

Chauncey, El tabaco es fuerte pero tienes que fumarlo!
