SANTO DOMINGO.- A commission from Brazil will come to the country next week to complete the details of the purchase of eight Super Tucano airplanes for 93.6 million dollars, whereas the aircraft maker wants to deliver two in advance so they begin to operate within approximately three months.
Upon making the announcement, Armed Forces minister Pedro Rafael Peña said the purchase of the Tucanos is a transcendental step for Dominican Republic’s new defense structure.
The official said the attack planes are cheaper to operate compared to helicopters, which he said cost 1,200 dollars per flight hour wile the Tucanos cost 500 dollars per flight hour. He said the Dominican pilots will go to Brazil for training.
As to the controversial legislation pending in Congress that authorizes firing on aircraft that enter Dominican skies illegally, the official said it would serve instead as “dissuasion,” citing that in Brazil there are considerably fewer illegal flights now, down from 3,500 per year. “The interception law is an initiative that’s preventive more than anything else.”

If we do not eradicate corruption the purchasing of these warplanes will be useless. as I ponder on the past events of our country, I realized that the corrupt leadership really is one of the main factors why the Dominican Republic persists in maintaining her slot on the list for 3rd world countries if we do not take on these issues we will still suffer rocky roads and second-rate medical facilities , poor quality education, and high prices of commodities.we will suffer all of these because the funds for building roads and school buildings are reduced when a corrupt official decides to take a big part of that hard-earned cash for his own selfish purposes. we suffer poor quality education because the funds for books and other school supplies in public schools are not enough because the rest of the money are diverted for an even more important cause: satisfying the greed of those in power.

well as some items that are "doctored in" and impossible to calculate such as spare parts and maintenance
unless you actually look at the purchase order and be able to itemize everything line item at a time.

Here's some info from a transaction btw this company and Colombia:
"SAO JOSE DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Embraer today announced a contract with the Government of Colombia for the sale of 25 Super Tucano aircraft. The value of the contract is US$ 235 million and marks the first ever Super Tucano export deal. The aircraft acquired by Colombia will be operated by the country's Air Force for internal security and border patrol missions. The contract was signed yesterday in Bogota."
http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-139560895.htmlWhat does that all mean, Colombia paid $9.4 Mil per plane, and we're paying $15.6mil per plane.
---More to come
WHY????
From: Dominican Republic
Well it makes sense you are buying less planes...Maybe after 10+ the price is 9 mill 20+ planes 7mil per etc... I guess your country need to buy more Obsolete Airplanes...I think DR should own at least 300 of those things especially if they expect to last a 10 minute war with Haiti. LOL WWII Airplanes with WWI designs.
