Well blame ladronel F for giving our people no education and bad milk.
From: United States, Somewhere in the World
All this violence stems from an un educated childhood, if parents don't instill in their children how to take care of the person thats next to them, their going to do the same thing to them that their seeing their parents do to each other, and unfortunately this will never be a part of the DR, because you have to pay for all services, unfortunatly. And right now with the way things are, with no electricity, no way to get a job, no way to get help with food is enough to turn even the educated into a monster, however theirs still no excuses for the violence.
From: Dominican Republic
Well said gatita, there is not excuse for violence. It does not matter what the causes are, that can't be happening in such as small country. It definately shows that in our country stills machismo floating up, which i believe is one the biggest problem we face in this island. Now do u think it's going to change? Well, it could change in the future but it requieres of intense education mostly in those poor neighborhoods where violence is their main entertaiment.
I recommend a cleanning activity starting from the authorities, prostitution and finally bring more support to house wifes. Man, should recongnize that las mujeres son para amarlas no para maltratarlas.

Katia Rodriguez is an excellent Dominican singer and composer who wrote the lyrics of the bachata "Basta Ya" and recorded the video that you all can see on the address below, which message is to stop violence, especially gender violence and give the advise to all women to get out of any dangerous relationship in which they may be at any time. She dreams the authorities of the Dominican Republic to spread her message, for which she got in contact with some officials of the current government. So far I don't really know if they they are taken any action on this regard, and it would be nice if they do, because that could mean a difference on statistics, since music is a very easy way for people to be aware of the problematic and the solution.

which GOD? If god was around these things would not happen or if ladronel would stop filling his pockets and educate us instead of a Metro to no where

There you go BASTA you said it yourself, it came out of your mouth everything thats going on in the DR is because of the Honorary King you all elected as a President, he's the reason for all the suffering, and because of all those thieves that are working for him, and even if you don't believe, god has nothing to do with the suffering thats going on here.

well said, gatitapequena, you sweet thing. folks, education has nothing to do with a man beating a woman, or killing her. there is some dismal thread of machismo in this country, which is not found everywhere. latino culture is filled with this. a man's theology has much to do with his sociology. when you adhere to a religion which actively relegates women to second class status, you have one part of the puzzle. combine that with a language which has female and male nouns, what can you expect? guys want to resolve any and every problem like "a man". which means "taking no crap from a woman, and kicking her ass if she does not shut up".

Ok education has nothing to do with anything. like teaching our children being tolerant and respecting all others. People are not taught to be stupid their parents do that. Education is everything, but here there is a huge lack of it because Ladronelly and his Metro and has had 9 years to keep just one of his promises.

Do you feel like a man when you hit a woman? If anything you're nothing but a little pussified sorry excuse for man...or should I say little boy. You're not a real man if you feel you have to beat up on a woman to prove something. That shows what little confidence you have. If you wanna beat on someone at least have enough balls to hit another guy. Make sure he's bigger than you, too.
From: United States
Basta, i agree with a lot of what you say, but i am not sure that it is education, or lack thereof, which is the root of this. no survey has proven that these people have all been abused by uneducated people. as a matter of fact, many people in high places are even more prone to abusing their women, knowing that the long arm of the law cannot touch them. the machismo characteristic is a part of the social zeitgeist, and is found in educated and uneducated alike.
From: Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo
I think you guys are confusing education with schooling, since people don't learn of violent behavior in schools or universities, but at home, children learn easily, and they follow patterns, they mostly don't do what they are told, but what they are seen. This is only one factor as there are others that influence as well on violent behavior.
From: United States, Somewhere in the World
welcome PilarRodriguez to our discusions, and we know what were talking about has nothing to do with schooling
From: United States
i think that that is my point, Pilar. it has to do with the value society places on women, and the place it thinks women occupy. a society which seeks equality for women does not see them as candidates for a beating. many a man in the United States is languishing behind bars for pushing a woman. raise your voice to her, the cops come to get you. here, it is normative. i saw a young man deck a woman with a flurry of punches in Cabarete one afternoon, and just simply walk away. had he done that in New York, he would never have made it one step further. then again, it depends. had it happened in a hispanic neighborhood, where machismo is still alive, maybe nobody would react; if he did it in some city in Vermont or Maine, he would have been skinned alive!!

What other word than MORONIC can you use for a society that sanctions this type of behavior.
absurd, harebrained, idiotic, insane, lunatic, mad, preposterous, silly, unearthly, zany, asinine, brainless

Last word, when my one of my neighbor's son who is 28 years old is beating his wife. My neighbor who is the father calls the police. Well, of course they do not want to come to our poor barrio of Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) of Santiago... unless it is to collect payoffs from drug dealers who micro traffick. So, my neighbor has to call the police and make a promise to pay maybe $RD 300 pesos for them to come and arrest his son in order to stop him from beating his wife.
This is the crazy life in the barrio. Do you guys think that police not wanting to come and do their jobs to protect women has something to do with the violence against women (and the stats noted in this article)?
Just a thought...
BTW, both the RD Gov & the US Embassy know about these things but no one cares about poor women of color (so, they just turn the deaf ear).
