Santo Domingo.- The Interior and Police Ministry yesterday said the ban on civilians bearing guns starts Monday, December 1, and ends January 1, aimed at reducing crime and encouraging "coexistence without violence" during the holidays.

The resolution includes the definitive cancellation to own a gun for anyone who violates the ban.

The suspension doesn’t include the weapon's transfer from one place to another. However they must be stored and not be readibly usable.

I'm no right wing gun nut, but I think when a government bans civilian ownership of firearms, it's the honest person who looses. The criminal doesen't care about breaking the law by having a gun (which he will rob you with), and you the home or buiseness owner will be forced to reley on the "good offices" of the police (who just might be the same guys who robbed you!)

I agree are rights are slowly being taken away from us, obama will do the same.
Honest law abiding citizens have the right to protect themselves, we will see a huge increase in crime beacuse of the global crisis NO MONEY NO JOB NO FOOD CRIME WILL BE THE ONLY ANSWER.
And who suffers the law abiding citizen

I don't think this kind of thing will happen in the U.S.. The President -Elect is proving to be a centerist, not the far left radical his oppisition tried to make him out to be. A federal ban in the U.S. would take decades to attempt, through legislation and changes to the Supeme Court as well as ammending the Constitution, none of that would be easy.

Are you kidding: "...aimed at reducing crime and encouraging "coexistence without violence" during the holidays.."
Killing each other is an integral part of the holidays. You can't take their guns...
