SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Government’s apparent increasing indifference to the various national problems, especially the constant blackouts, has everyone forgetting politics, the U.S. elections, and even baseball, while president Leonel Fernandez isn’t here to take the heat.

Despite the firm attitude by some agencies such as forcing officials to declare their assets, to abide by the norm that bans the import of vehicles with the steering wheel to the right, forcing public transport drivers to lower fares and the protection of the rivers, the population feels abandoned by the lack of electricity, exacerbated by the absence of Fernandez for 21 days, today in France and then on to the Middle East.

No organism has been able to solve the problem of the blackouts, although the customers pay the increases; nor have the lower fuel prices fully benefited the population.

The sudden shutdown of some power plants, reportedly for “mechanical failures,” has led the national power system to collapse several times in the last few days, when the Government owes US$336 million to the power companies.

A Failed State!"

Considering that Fernandez was elected by a huge majority of the Dominican People in free and transparent elections one can only come to 1 conclusion.

Dominicans are a failure as an electorate.

When the people elected Prez LF they acted in good faith -

since there was macro-economic progress made which included stability in the peso from 60 down to 32 to the US dollar. Secondarily, LF was better than the competition and got his message out. Unfortunately, Prez LF is NOT acting in the same manner of "good faith" as the Dominican people. Prez LF is out being a statesman when leadership should start at home.

Note the problems in the above article along with social unrest, protest due to lack of clean water & power, police violence on citizens (but not on criminals & Tigres dealing drugs), breach of laws, the exodus of cheap Haitian labor as harvests will soon be rotting on the ground due to lack of laborers and thus accelerate inflation, price gouging and higher food shortages in the future.

This is just the short version of the greater problems that are to come ....due to lack of real leadership in both the RD Gov & guidance from the US Ambassador.

They had already known the type of administration he had run. Remember the Dominicans are the same people who put in the PRD every once in awhile.

No the DR has no Monopoly on stupidity.
My beef is that the Dominicans knew what they were getting and yet they complain.

Basta;

Yes they did!
They fell for the same type of BS rhetoric that the Dominicans fell for and look where they are now---in the same boat as the Dominicans. But at least they have running water, effective sewage disposal, electricity 24/7 (except outages caused by natural disasters ), an effective educational system and infrastructural support in all areas necessary.
They also have the same social problems as the DR, but go about solving those problems in an entirely different manner, seeking solutions that will be long lasting instead of "band-aiding" the problems.
Most follow a political ideology that has worked for them in the past, setting aside that ideoloby briefly in times of conflict and adopt a cooperative manner to gain victory over an enemy.
I could cite many other situations, but I think you get the idea.
Through it all, the US has had a government "OF, FOR, and BY the people".
Think about it instead of rationalizing the problems away.

OH, yes- just look at the injustices, deaths, and working conditions of the American workers – blacks – women 1776 to present. Let us not talk about the slaughter of the American Indians. The US foreign policy exp. Out of 300,000 inhabitants on one island 100,000 [in the Philippines] died by our military hand. “I was ordered to burn them all” Nice people the Americans.
rationalizing the problems away. They are the devil incarnate!

Blackouts in Dominican Republic are old news. Dominican population does not pay for electricity. Usually when electrical company cuts off the power line for one home, after the technicians are gone, people from the house just reconnect the electricity, or pay somebody to do it.
Besids that there are not any general problems in the country.
Dominicans have daily portions of rice and beans, that is the first thing that they are thinking around noon. (11:30AM), so then they prepare they evening meal (usually don plin) and play national lottery (Pale lottery, and then they have to play another lottery - Nacional). Thats what the 85 % of population does every day. Dominicans dont care about US elections, they dont care about baseball, they dont care about blackouts, and I dont think they care about mechanical failures of power plants. Who owns the plants, has the money to repair it. Or should we recollect the 336 millions from the population?

Well the president knew it was coming the "SMART" guy he is. So he decided to go to Paris, after all it is "THE CITY OF LIGHTS".

How romantic, during the worst Blackout / Power Outage. He and his Marie Antoinette, may say to the DR, LET THEM EAT CAKE.

Anyone have a guillotine handy.

you guys have to bear with anthonyc. the guy is just not too bright, plain and simple. Bush has a 27 % approval rating. Clinton had 66% he rates Bush as one of the greatest ever. 27% is probably the lowest on record. only a miami cuban could have such a thought process. after all, 67% of them voted for him!

Approval Ratings mean ANYTHING!

What was Lincoln's Approval Rating?

Clinton was a do nothing wuss. Didn't cause much harm but didn't do much good either.

because he did not bomb everything that was moving? what do you consider a wuss? i guess you think that Bush left the USA better off than Clinton? be careful, anthony; a mind is a terrible thing to waste. by the way, Lincoln was before the days of approval ratings. did you know that he could not have had a post office rating, since he was assassinated during his term? just bringing you up to speed with history.

is Leonel playing with a complete deck? is this article correct when it says he has been away for 21 days? what president goes on a 3 week world tour, leaving his country to fend for itself? then again, it is probably better off without him, given his lack of effectiveness.

very interesting observation, anthonyc .sorry that you are in such a bad mood, since the democrats are in the process of sweeping you into obscurity. then you and your friends can concentrate your efforts on fleecing medicare. but watch it; the eyes of Obama are upon you and your fellow travellers. they are not going to sit idly by and allow Mel Martinez to protect you. you might have to look for honest work. now that's a novel idea!

Hahahaha.

Dready,
You just don't get it do you?

Guys like me....we don't lose. We just adapt and continue.
Obama and the dems think they are going to get more money from me? Ha. That is why there are things called loopholes.
Even with them I am sure I paid much more in Taxes last year than you earned.

But don't worry. The money and income I generate is probably 5X more beneficial to the economy than any welfare program you types can think of.

Oh.
And My guys won BTW. My Congressman, The Mayor and councilman for my town and most of the Constitutional amendments.

and your point is? firstly, your incessant reminders of how well off you are do not impress me; i remember you saying you had a doctorate, but my dog is more educated than you are. so why should i believe you that you are Trump Junior? you might very well be some washed up old miami hustler, a leftover from the miami vice days of drug movers. as to welfare programs; you really have some balls beating on about them, since the miami mafia got all kinds of grants and handouts to get started here. i know what you are implying about welfare, but your gang got far more help from the US government than black people ever did.

You don't even know who my people are so why to you make claims?

I was born in the US. Never took a dime of Government money. Neither did my parents.

Every cent I have I earned....Something you obviously cannot relate to.

The news fresh off the press. OBAMA wins.

To those who only post to demur anything American. To be willing to insult all Americans for the views of a few. To engage in the hipocresy of hating the host who accepted them.

Today those same Americans, who implemented Democracy over 200 years ago, a concept that back then was new to the world. The USA has once again shown the world, that it has the ability to correct it's course. In ways that many lesser countries can only dream about.

So as others in the world watch in awe and amazement, of what the USA is able to do. Be thankful that you are part of a country that can do this.

God Bless America
