Santo Domingo. - Dominican chief executive Leonel Fernandez today congratulated the democrat Barack Obama for his victory in attaining the United States Presidency, and praised the Americans’ “civic behavior" in Tuesday’s elections.

Fernandez, who’s visiting Qatar, said the world’s democratic values have been fortified once again with Obama’s electoral triumph. “The people of the United States and its leaders showed the world the path to follow for freedom and democratic values that country has taught since its independence."

The Dominican chief executive, in a statement to the press, added that Obama and the American people "have great efforts to undertake, challenges to confront in the road to build a better world for all societies."

Tell Obama that finally we should get a US ambassador that is not a political appointee, and if they send another one to send one that is not more concerned about Puerto Rican welfare than US and Dominican welfare.
(I did mean you Mr. Fannin but the previous one). We never had the pleasure, yet.
Also something has to be done about simplifying and expediting the absentee voting mechanisms.
Why can't US citizens simply vote in the embassy like other nationalities?

Last time I checked Leonel Fernandez was not what one would equate with being a white man. He is just as black, if not even blacker than Barack Obama.

On behalf of all Americans, thanks for the congrats!

But, it feels a little superficial and like Prez LF is jumping aboard the new express flavor of the month. And it is a little too soon to start butt-kissing!

Obama, unlike Bush/McLame and Fannin types is concerned about all citizens and especially including the middle class & poor (not just the elite). Obama seeks wise council from subject experts and is mission-drive and "results oriented". Obama is an agent of what? CHANGE & IMPROVEMENT!

Thus, he would NOT be satisfied with the status quo & the impotent role of our US Embassy in the RD! Americans should be able to vote there in la capital but nothing changes. Why? Becuz, these ambassadors & staff of suck-ups are "W-O-R-T-H-L-E-S-S!"

Fannin & staff know Choppo Pichardo sells drugs to kids in my barrio Ensanche Caonabo in Santiago but does NOTHING to pressure the corrupt RD Gov & DNCD and that is just one thing that makes him worthless.

BUT CHANGE IS COMING!

Schools hurting from blackouts

Education has also taken a harsh blow during these rolling blackouts. Night classes at some public schools have been limited because there is no power. The prolonged blackouts lasting up to 20 hours make it impossible for backup power inverters to fully charge and with limited resources many schools don't have the money to buy fuel for energy generators. In some schools professors are using kerosene lamps in order to teach.

I think it was made clear a long time ago" in order to have a metro "the national grids had to be up to it . Generation had to be in place as well as power distribiution. This is the outcome of an
anticuated system run by the State to give jobs to its corrupt groups, as well as to generate kick back which they call it commission.
Where are the gas tubines supposely installed in the North West of RD and the outskirt of Sto Dgo ?Natural gas could be adquired from the smaller Antilles for fuel at much lesser price than oil.and for cooking instead of using charcoal in the countryside, wood burners
I think the power generation as well as the telephone co should be privatley owned as well as the distribution system. Then would be up to them to collect revenue from users and pay taxes as well as the users, instead of the gvt having to inject $600 mns US dollars for fuel per year as a subsidy .In the hands of a private co they could constantly update the equipt & write it off ,
