NEW YORK.- New York South District Federal Court judge Kimba Wood sentenced the Dominican Luis Eduardo Rodriguez Cordero to 14 years in prison for laundering money from drug trafficking and conspiracy in connection with the international ring of narcotics traffickers allegedly headed by ex Dominican Army captain Quirino Paulino.

The 1,387 kilos of cocaine seized on December 18, 2004, makes it the biggest drug bust in Dominican history.

Rodriguez (El Principe), who’s been held for 4 years in the case involving 20 other Dominicans, was taken before judge Wood from the Metropolitan Corrections Center located near the Court, in Lower Manhattan. He had pleaded guilty and expected to receive a lesser sentence, and his lawyer Linda George said her client who would appeal.

The authorities confiscated around 500,000 dollars from Rodriguez in Santo Domingo, although George requested an investigation since her client affirms there was more money than the amount reported.

Paulino was extradited to the United States in early 2005 after his arrest by local and DEA agents on December 18, 2004, in Santo Domingo, on charges of possession of 1,387 kilos of cocaine together with the ex Police colonel Lidio Nin and Tirso Cuevas, both extradited to the U.S.

I wished the sentenced was longer. Also, I wished they had a way to get at the money stashed that is NOT reported.

Since Uu mention the movie BLOW! Did U notice the scene towards the end when he went to see his daughter after an early prison round but when his wife bluntantly asked "are you a gay/homosexual now?" And his response was "Yeah!"

I'm sure the boys-on-the-block will get a chance to impact his life in a hard-way; much the like drugs promoted by the RD Gov officials negatively scarred the lives of many Dominican youth & the world.

But these guys R a tip of the iceberg becuz most make alot of money in the RD via drug sales without any threat nor deterrent.

Both Prez LF & Ambassador Fannin, know that CHOPPO Pichardo and in family micro-traffic drugs in my Santiago barrio of Ensanche Caonabo (Los Platanitos) off Calle A Transveral but the payoffs & kickbacks to officials, local police & DNCD Norte etc make these Tigueres "UNTOUCHABLE"

Gov corruption is so s

Well, it is federal time in a federal facility, which go from country club settings in West Virginia to Danbury CT or Fishkill, NY. His lawyers will decide, the judge may or may not agree.

Federal Sentencing Guide lines impose minimum sentences, there is no federal probation or parole since 1994 or so. The mandatory minimum for trafficking over 5 kilos of cocaine is 15 yrs mandatory not concurrent with any other sentence. Does not matter if you plead or go to trial. These were implemented to assure that a guy in Kansas gets the same time as a guy in NYC for the same type of offense.

The fact he got 14 years indicates that the judge considered a downward departure, which is a strict formula where they can go up or down based on mitigating circumstances such as cooperation, acknowledgement of guilt (PLEAD) and role in the organization, was he in a leadership role, how many underlings etc.

So you can use this as a base line as to QUIRINO who should get at least 25 years.
