SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican doctor Alex Blanco won the elections to become the mayor of the city of Passaic, of New Jersey, by just 400 votes more than his closest rival.
According to the final results of the voting Tuesday, Blanco, a member of the Passaic Board of Education, defeated Vincent Capuana, president of that Board.

Now, this is good Dominican news. Can we please get more of this?
I desperately want to write some good comments about the RD Gov & our US Embassy (Santo Domingo).
Fannin, can U throw me a bone of some real efforts to show leadership on Dominican issues so that I can say that the US Embassy is working to show the RD Gov the light?
I mean, as in the article above Dominicans can make good things happen.
Given the scenario of RD events, I often wonder what in the hell...Fannin & staff of jack-offs are doing in the Embassy? Does anyone know what they are doing to push & lead the RD Gov into the right direction?
Fannin, why doesn't the US use its influence? We would be better off to have the Senator from Bani as the next RD President to get officials out of the drug game.
Fannin, it is like the RD is another Katrina but once again White Conservatives in power do NOT care about people of color?
When do you come to my barrio &d see how easy you can buy drugs?

This is my home base, Passaic NJ.
Right now it is mostly recent Mexican immigrants, the Dominican community has spread out to the surrounding towns and other counties including Bergen Country NJ (one of the most affluent). I state this because it follows a typical pattern where minorities who've moved up a bit on the socioeconomic ladder tend to leave the traditional poorer inner-city type ethnic enclaves.
Many are also moving to N. Carolina where the housing market is much cheaper.

Don't know much about the guy or his politics, but good on him for showing the potential for civic engagement in the Dominican-American community.
