Santo Domingo.– The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) announced the approval of a $40 million loan to the Dominican Republic for a program to enhance its electricity distribution networks.

The IDB resources will help three Dominican power companies, EDENORTE, EDESUR and EDESTE, make investments to upgrade priority distribution circuits in order to reduce technical losses caused by deficient equipment and materials.

Under the program, the utilities will also take steps to improve the quality of their services and to improve bill collection, both by better managing and monitoring major clients and by reducing the theft of electricity.

The program is expected to help improve the financial situation of the utilities and increase energy efficiency in the Dominican Republic. It will promote rational use of electricity, which would lead to savings in generation and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

If we had a few less ass't secrataries, and a few less ministers without portfolios (and work to do to justify their exhorbitant salaries) we wouldn't have to put ourselves further in debt.

Is this one of the loans that some of our legislators are getting payoffs to approve?

I agree, a substantial portion of this money will "enhance" private bank accounts! The sentences for crimes against humanity and quality of life that these politicians commit should be on par with murder!!

How are do think this will work?

1) Much of the money will be lost to corruption
2) Some will be lost to inferior workmanship
3) What does get done will be stolen by scumbags

By the time this money is spent the electricity issue will ONLY be worse.

Loser...............

....... I guess it's going to be a very bright Christmas in some politico(s) home this year. To bad for everyone else who will be paying the loan for the next 4 years.
