SANTO DOMINGO.- The Presidency’s Administrative Minister affirmed yesterday that the president of the bus owners grouped in Fenatrano shouldn’t be allowed to continue the use of violence, to force drivers who disagree with his calls to strike to support him, but fell short of announcing possible charges.

Luis Manuel Bonetti said Juan Hubieres isn’t a union leader, rather a transport businessman, and has the right to stop his buses when he wishes it, but called the stabbing of the car tires of vehicles of those who want to continue working, an attack against on the citizens’ rights. “But what’s most serious about the situation is that they stab the tires of other drivers who need to make the bread each day."

Yesterday morning thousands of passengers in Santo Domingo province and the National District found it difficult to get to work and school, because Fenatrano called a "surprise strike" to demand that its affiliates are included in the subway’s feeder routes.

The desperate commuters, amid pushing and shoving, boarded the vehicles that dared to disregard the call to strike, but Fenatrano’s members allegedly stoned and stabbed the tires of some of them, leaving its passengers stranded.

We are governed by cowardly thieves.

And now the talking Hippopotamus, wearing clothing, chimes in:

Mejía manifestó que “me identifico plenamente con las demandas de los choferes, pero yo dudo que Leonel entienda eso, porque es que él no entiende esas cosas”.

“Yo he venido aquí a solidarizarme con Juan y sus compañeros; me identifico plenamente con su lucha.

"A transport businessman who has the right to stop HIS buses when he wishes it..."

So any businessman can have his thugs run rampant in the streets whenever he feels like it as well? Imagine Cervezeria Nacional calling for a strike, and forcing all colmados who sell their beer to close as well on penalty of having their shop burned down by CN tigueres if they do not comply...

Furthermore, as far as I know the busses are not his but owned by the drivers who are forced to join a criminal gang like FENATRANO to even be able to work.

A guy like this left unchecked will do more damage to the economy of the DR than unions planning a strike and going through with the planned action. Destruction of private property (tires, equipment) is uncalled for and he should be arrested and thrown under the jail.

Well, I am totally against the Huelgas (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huelga just for Goulet, he likes wiki)
Today great number of workers could not come to their work in Punta Cana, if they were traveling from Higuey.
Technician of Codetel and Claro, also, as they are coming from Higuey.

I found this type of the strikes contra productive, and violent. If somebody has to make a strike, there is a policy how the strike should be orginanized, and where and when.

Well, as the President is coming tomorrow here in Punta Cana, I think that it is going to be a short strike...

Luis Rafael Cedeño should resign if he can not keep Benjamín Ávila in jail, why Tomasito is not in jail as well?
Or let out Benjamin, arrest the Tomasito. Or lets help Bejamin to kill Tomasito, and arrest Luis.
How about to stop with abuso de choferes, put proper bus stations (there is not even one from Higuey to Punta Cana). Also cost of transport is too much, comparing with last years, compering with the price of Petrol that chofers have.
How about some regulations, and order.

Milos one of Reagans greatest moments was when he fired the Air Traffic controllers for their illegal strike...if only Lionel would do something similar he would win back the support of the people

One of the Reagans greatest moments was when he switched from Democrats to Republicans.
Also one of the stupid moments was when he bombed the Libya, one of many u.s.a. successfull foreign politics tactics. Well, I was lucky in that time, that my family moved from Libya six months before bombing, I had opportunity to see amercian embassy in flames.
Comparing with Reagan, Leonel is real president, not an actor.
Here is very liberal politic, and hopefully during a day, everything will be back in order.
I think, that right now should be back in normal, as it is a lunch time, no dominican would strike with empty stomack.
Rise and beans first then everything else.
I would say: Very well, Leonel (Construction of new Highway is continued)
This strike is not about buses, prices, or anything similar, its about that one man is in prison, who can move other mens that moved the buses (stoped)

Right On GC, Fire him (the minimum) and throw him out of the country, or bring charges against him for the slashed tires, firebombings or whatever and make him do hard labor......repairing the roads. Why does the government keep turning the other cheek (or spreading their cheeks) to this guy? Extortion is a crime. This guy is a subversive commie who uses any and every opportunity to disrupt commerce and the peoples God given right to earn a living here which is already tough enough without him stirring the pot. Hang a tire around his neck and slash it!!!.............with a really long knife!!

Agreed, This guy will cause more problems with the already fragile economy.

Tourists will stay only in the AI, if they think they will be stranded by mass transit.

Where is Melanio Paredes? Oh yes, in education.

He was the one who stood up against the trucker's union in favor of Chevron, and it was not easy, but he won his point. Too bad he doesn't run both ministries.

Looks like the war is on, LF just excluded FENATRANO from the Metro routes due to their violent and irresponsible behavior of the past days.

Or how Michael Buffer would say it: "Let's get ready to rrrrumbleeee!"
