SANTO DOMINGO.- Navy chief of Staff Julio Cesar Ventura Friday announced the arrests of members of an alleged ring that includes a resident of the United States that traffic with boatpeople to Puerto Rico, including two who survived a yola tragedy.

He said Diomito Rodriguez Santos and Reynaldo Ramirez Gil, who are recovering in the Luis Eduardo Aybar hospital after their rescue on the high seas, will be charged. They survived after their yola sank mid November, which reportedly killed more than 50 boatpeople.

The official said the ring’s other members are Paulino Cedeño (Segundo), Ramon Rafael Carrión Brito (Ramon El Gacho), a person nicknamed El Ciego and Leo –all thse are fugitives- and Rosa Nilda Hinojosa Javier/Rosa Javier de Cabrera (Morena La Marimba), a resident in the United States and who’s being held by Naval Intelligence (M-2).

He said investigators found that the survivors and Ramirez Gil, Rodriguez Santos and his wife Hinojosa Javier/Javier de Cabrera, are part of the ring, which allegedly recruited the now missing boatpeople in Villa Riva, Duarte province (northeast).

He said a search of her residence found ID cards, cell phones, money and other evidence of her involvement in the illegal trips to Puerto Rico.

You know, I was wonder if the people who go on these Journeys to PR read or hear the news regarding the death toll every time people embark on these dangerous yola ride. I have no pity for the organizers...they well know the percentage of survival is 1 and a million.

Perhaps the best course of action is to put them back where they found them....just like the two of them left thier human cargo. Odd that the only two survivors were the smugglers...perhaps the only two with lifejackets available. Feed them to the sharks.

Oh whatever, man this is their good way of cleaning and closing this case, by blaming the only survivors that made it. "CASE CLOSED"

There are no lessons be learned from repeated tragedies. The importation of an illusion continues to eat away at the ignorance of people. P.R. at present is going through a period of high unemployment and an increased in crime. New laws requiring passports for all U.S. citezens includes Puerto Rican in order to travel to the states. It is not only the organizer that are to blame for the desparates needs of people that feel that their only hope to better their lives is on the soils of a foreign land. These people are well aware of the dangers that they place themselves since they are aware of the large sums they paid. What they may not realize is that such sums can be used to better their lives in D.R. but they choose to risks it all for an illusion. If there were no borders such tragedies may still occur cause people will still look for a cheap way to travel.
