SANTO DOMINGO.- Environment minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal yesterday warned that no one that acquires lands in the National Park of the East will be able to enter the zone to take possession of them.

The official said the titles of property that can be obtained by those benefited with land registry pertaining to the protected area can be legal, but will lack legitimacy.

Fernandez said the National Park of the East is a national patrimony, "that no multimillionaire, millionaire, serious person, trafficker, bum, nobody can acquire any land, because it’ll never have legitimacy."

The ex vice president said the Environment Ministry will not regard documents that lack legitimacy as valid in the zone. “We’ll never allow their occupation; we’ll never give them legitimacy. They’ll be able to have it ‘quote’ legally, with all the rights, but legitimately they’ll not have because we’ll never permit it."

Fernandez said the Environment Ministry assumes the commitment to preserve the Park of the East as a protected area and stressed that the permits for any action outside the General Environment Law’s mandates will not be issued.

He warned those who seek to establish ownership in the zone that he’ll not allow the alienation of a single meter of land in the natural reserve. “Neither to the great millionaires, nor to the fathers of families, nobody,” Fernandez said, and affirmed that the authorities safeguard everything in the National Park of the East.

One of the alleged buyers of the 3.4 million square meters of lands valued at US$19.9 million is the Spaniard Carlos Sánchez, indicted in his country on money laundering charges.

Everey government to date in theDR has given these government lands to their elected officials and no matter what screaming takes place the lands are never returned.
Just a lot of smoke and mirrors by Leonel and his cronies.

Sure, now that they got the money, they want to keep the land.

The real problem is that if he is not the next president, then the next Environment Minister will stuff his pockets and turn a blind eye.

Notice the RD Gov do not deny the land was bought and sold but clearly state they will NOT honor the titles!

You can get this same deal in the US because the Brooklyn bridge is for sale also!

Wow, these guys have already pocketed and split up the proceeds from the sale which has a profit margin of 100% because there was never any inventory of land purchased to be re-sold, just alot of hot air. Now, the buyer will not have any legal recourse in the RD and will likely be in jail in Spain.

Buyer beware of what kind of business you do with these RD Gov officials! BTW, if anyone is interested in buying the Brooklyn Bridge then let me know. It will make a great holiday gift!

In my opinion, Jaime David is acting defiantly and not valiantly. Granted the judges decision is not favorable, but that is the law, as interpreted by these judges, crooked or not. Jaime David should follow the rules of law and appeal the decision to the Supreme court of the country. And if the Supreme Court upholds the land court decision, he should follow it. His defiance only shows that he is the typical government official, doing business as usual without regards to the rule of law.

Amen Roberto. You hit the nail on the head! Jaime David is just another Politico. Full of HOT AIR looking to Baffle the Pueblo with his defiant words. Wasn't it Jaime David that hit and killed a girl on the road near Cabrera while driving his jeepeta and never was even taken to the police station for questions? All these fat cats are above the law in the DR, and will sell their mothers if given the opportunity, much like the foolish Gov. of Illinois. The DR has more than their fair share of these buffoons. I laugh every time I see a photo of the PN Chief, picture perfect, with all his shiny medals and ribbions, but stupidity is observed, every time he opens his mouth, a good non-thinking soldier.

Hey Juango, you may be 50% right in your comment, but a good Dominican always endorses the good things happening in the country and you're not up to that. Judges can be bought with certain amount of money, but i don't believe Jaime can, which just makes him really worth.

I completely agree with the fact that Jaime trys to protect our National Parks over all. That's exactly what he has to do, that's his job and he has to do what is most convinient for him and for everybody else.

He is there to protect natural resources and he is up to that. Good Job, buddy!!!!!
