SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORIS. - The pilot of the airplane that disappeared Monday with 11 other people on board after take off from Santiago’s Cibao airport had been momentarily detained in that terminal and his companion is still being held, a relative of one of the passengers revealed today, as facts begin to surface on the fatal flight.

Glenny de la Cruz, a cousin of Maria Altagracia Abreu, 21, said the airplane was headed to Miami and would make a stop in the Bahamas.

The identity of the person who would accompany the pilot Adrian Jiménez and who’s now under arrest in Santiago couldn’t be established.

According to de la Cruz, her cousin paid 6,000 dollars of the 18,000 the trip cost and the rest was to be paid upon her arrival at Miami.

Meanwhile, Air Force Chief of staff Carlos Altuna Tezanos yesterday revealed that one of the reasons Jiménez’s pilot license the cancelled was his alleged involvement in people trafficking.

Perhaps the plane was overloaded, and or due for major overhaul. How long does it take a poor Dominican to save $6000 and then work a low paying job in Miami to pay off another $12000?

Time to face reality. The expression, "Anything Goes" originated here. If you can think of it, you can do it here.

You don't trust the FAD's Cheif danny? the guys got four sets of wings. U.S. military pilots wear only one set, so the General here is four times better than any U.S. airforce, navy, or marine pilot !

My deepest condolences go to the families of the innocent victims of this tragic event. My heart goes out to my brothers and sisters of the Dominican Republic. As an ex Islander pilot I must say this aircraft is very unforgiving when weight and balance is the case. Information has it this individual loaded this plane like loading a minivan and took off!

Many intrigues surround this incident, like why would the owner a "fellow boricua" have his plane flown to the DR to be inspected when Puerto Rico as a US Commonwealth an FAA inspection far exceeds that of any foreign nation?

I feel the owner has a lot of questions to answer!!! As the "Yola with wings", yes I believe this pilot has been involved in this for some time now and I wouldn't be surprised the DR officials are on the take on this!!!

God bless you all, (victims) are in my prayers!!!

I turly think that the plane run out of fuel. Because it a three engine acft. And if one of the engine failed they still have two left. And the plane is used for cargo. They are so many story you dont kwn which one to believe

What is everybody's surprise here.
You can buy anything in the DR airports.
There is no checking or security.
Security is only a thing for the tourist to look at and being harrased.
the Big stuff still gets through.

" According to a report released Wednesday night by the Armed Forces, Jimenez a former Navy cadet, has a long rap sheet since he first entered the military and ousted just six months later for allegedly cheating on exams." .....another rotten apple from the military barrel....also possible implications to the murder of an honest official ...the list goes on and on ...Find his associates and name them

Adrián Jiménez, must have been known to many agencies and under suspicion for some time...for him to be able to continue to operate freely in aviation circles would have required many greased palms who are the people responsible for not making sure this guy never got near an airplane other than as a passenger...I am also skeptical of claims of theft of this airplane

Notice how interesting it is that these events are disclosed on the back-end but not on the front-end. It is only when a potential tragedy happens (i.e. missing plane, Bani killings etc) that all the dirty laundry seems to only "start" to be aired. However, there is nothing "proactive on the front-end" to disclose corruption(s), illegal activities, crimes and those of RD Gov officials involved!

Someone had to look the other way as many events developed such as the recent accident with this plane landed recently beforehand but no reports were made...everything was swept under the rug.

Bottomline, the level of corruption is like a cancer that grows & spreads at an accelerating rate; all because RD officials only want to deal with the symptoms revealed in the aftermath (i.e. missing plane) but NOT get to the root cause of corruption that allow these and other events to be ongoing!

This was NOT his 1st illegal flight! This was a hi-price YOLA for illegals@ $18k each & drugs!
