SANTO DOMINGO.- A young ballplayer recently signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers  was killed Thursday morning with a bat to the head by a companion in the baseball field in the sector Los Tres Ojos, while they were practicing.

The victim, Yariel Angel Sanchez, 23, was taken to the emergency room at the Darío Contreras hospital, where he died moments later.

The around 16 year-old unidentified suspect fled the scene right after the attack on Sanchez.

Witnesses said the Major League prospect and his aggressor argued over a ball and when Sanchez turned his back was struck with the bat leaving him  left unconscious, and later passed away.

A baseball bat to the back of the head, a rock thrown from a distance, a broken bottle or a razor blade in a sneak attack, or a sucker punch and a quick retreat. Why is it we have never fought like men?

My Condolescences to the Family also. If the guy had a good deal maybe there was a iron clad contract with at least an insurance clause ...so the family can still escape poverty.

Maybe the police will do their job and bring the other youngster to justice. I have seen to many cases where the criminal can pay off police and even go to PR to escape justice.

As stated by arturo, danny00 and brugalymamajauna, over here in the DR there is no such thing as a fair fight; things are settled with bottles, machetes or guns, preferably against an unarmed opponent. Frequently heard terms by the so called macho´s are "un botellazo/machetazo/par de tiro" just for you looking at someone, you driving in a way that they do not agree with, etc. etc.

ps. I also wonder why it is that, though they should have plenty of experience with bottles, machetes and guns; those macho excuses for real men are actually quite bad in using their preferred arms: so I only can imagine how they fighting skills are when they do not have a weapon; not able to sneak up and sucker punch their opponent or jump him with a group of his "pana's"...
