Haitians in DR are numbered about 2 million. These Haitians are there to secure our land. There is one island (Hispaniola). There is one country and that's HAITI. PERIOD ! The Haitians were the ones who shed their blood to liberate and free the island. Now Dominicans have two choices:

For the past few days, we've been engaged in harsh rethorics toward one another. We have blindly allowed ourselves to be consumed by our low instinct. Blames can go to both sides. Harsh rethorics have been flying on both sides. There is some truth to what has been said in this forum. But anger and frustration have taken over, and most of what has been said here is pure stupidity. It's time to end the "Silly Season". YES WE CAN! We can do better than that.

Now I would like to hear something constructive from both sides. Constructive criticism is welcome as well. "Dominican Today" has to be in an awkward position to allow both sides to be spewing hatred relentlessly on its website. Guys, grow up! Civility and Decency please!

You are right. There is racism on both sides. In Haiti it's more classism. As you said, one of the reasons is beacuse the light skin group is a tiny fraction of the population.

The U.S. reinforced racism in Haiti both times that they invaded Haiti. Back then Th U.S. had mulatos only in the public offices; However, the Haitians have always had black Kings, black Emperors, black presidents. And also 97% of the Haitian population are black.

I believe it's the first time that DR has a president as dark as Leonel. Pena Gomez, who was one of the most, if not the most brilliant and brightest Dominican politician, was denied the presidency because of his skin color.
