Santo Domingo.- Nine people were killed and 143 have been injured so far in the first few days of the Christmas break, said Emergency Operations Center director Colonel Juan Manuel Méndez García. He said there was a slight reduction compared to the same period last year, when 14 people lost their lives.
The largest number of injuries occurred in a road accident on the Higuey-Bávaro road when three minibuses crashed at 7:30 a.m. on Christmas morning. Seventeen people were treated at the Higuey hospital. According to reports, several of the victims were employees at the Dominican Beach Hotel in Bávaro.
The Emergency Operations committee named the people who died in separate incidents as Cristóbal Fernando, Nati Rosario, Samuel Olivares, Félix Antonio Núñez, Juan Rodríguez, Emilio de la Cruz, Mario Martínez, Mariana Rosario and Rosaura Rodríguez.

I don't know, maybe I missed something ! BUT, my guess is what you refer to as waiting for "arrogant and negative comments" are probably from those of us in the U.S and abroad who have posted past experiences while driving in the DR. I for one would like to see a real Mandatory Driver Education Program in order to get your drivers license unless you of course drive a M-113 A-3 troop carrier where like a Timex can "take a licked and keep on ticking". Regarding the Human element which by the way is the MOST Important element to date [Personal Responsibility]. Lets start by putting our egos aside, take away the Booze, Boom Boom Stereo's and cell phones so he may focus on the Road not the Babes on the Streets. Maybe this will cut down on the Highway Fatalities year around NOT JUST the Holidays. Lets start by looking for SOLUTIONS not ESCAPE GOATS if we were to really make a difference and save lives. I welcome any body's thoughts, comments and feed-back.

My opinion, there is a difference between Auto Accidents and Cold Blood calculated Mass Murder.
Auto Accidents in most cases are just that...........ACCIDENTS.
Can a Vehicle be used as a Weapon, YES.
One can be charged with Murder by using a Vehicle in such a manner as to intentionally cause the Death of a Human Being threw Negligence, excess speeds, Drinking and Driving thus causing the Death of a Human Being,......YES.
The Dom. Rep. should post & Man Sobriety Check Points randomly Year Around not just around the Holidays, and start enforcing speeding Laws and the Rules of the Road, the numbers should drop noticeably.
Correction: 9 Innocent Victims Murdered, plus, the Shooter commented suicide.

I think the drivers in the DR are pretty good considering the roads!
TRUE, you would think due to road conditions such as dirt roads, pot holes and weather Conditions, but consider non enforcement of traffic laws, no proper drivers training programs, no Insurance, no Drivers License and no accountability one would think Dominicans in part would drive a little extra careful, but they don't. The mentality is WHO CARES and GO FOR IT and off they go. It's safe to say a major numbers of Auto Accidents in the DR are caused by drivers not obeying the rules of the road.
Reminder, when in the DR drive with 4 eyes not 2.
