I know for a fact that the DNCD Norte in Santiago and the local police are on the take with the Pichardo drug family in Santiago barrio of Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) near the Cibao Stadium on the side of the Children's Hospital. Drugs are moved in and re-distributed to other barrios and onto the PR via Choppo (aka Jose Annibal Lopez Pichardo).

My goodness -- what came over Bachelet? Did she happen to take note of the recent pardons issued by the President? While I've never had overall high confidence in the Dominican political system, from an intellectual standpoint, I genuinely tried to give Leonel and this current administration the benefit of the doubt. These recent pardons, however, are inperdonable. I have lost all confidence in Leonel's ability to lead. Man! Sometimes it's exhausting being Dominican. It literally pains my heart to see such disregard for common decency, the rule of law, and really just a little respect for the general population. For the longest, I genuinely believed that Leonel was going to break the pattern and deliver a different kind of politics. No such luck -- it's just Hipolito under a different name.

Another good point. Maybe she's extolling DRs legal system because hers has been so inept at bringing the arch criminals still loose in that country to justice. After the economic meltdown Chile suffered in the early 80s, precisely because of Pinochet's failed economic policies, Pinochet's government stepped in with bailouts and the Chilean state ended up owning cosiderably more assets under Pinochet than it ever had under Allende and that's a fact. Listen goulet, the only reason why spain has a semblance of a modern society today is because she finally wisened up and embraced Europe as opposed to what she has done for most of her history. It was Spain's integration with the rest of Europe that brought about her current reality and it would've happened with or without franco. If anything franco slowed the process down cosiderably.
