SANTO DOMINGO. - President Leonel Fernandez last night asked Dominicans to have confidence in his government, which he said is committed to seek solutions the problems that may affect them in 2009, such as the energy crisis, crime and food production.
He said the elections, the energy crisis, food and the global economic problems made 2008 a challenging and difficult year for the nation.
Fernandez spoke last night, together with his family after the year end concert for government employees and the lighting of the National Palace’s Christmas tree and exterior lights. “I’m hopeful that the new year will be better and we commit ourselves to work, even in adverse conditions, to maintain economic growth and social peace, create more jobs, attract new investments and continue the progress.”
He said he’ll deliver a brief speech to the country next week on measures to control crime and new economic actions to guarantee the country’s stability.

There was also the one that had the upper disco type place above the liquor store on King street, but most of us locals went to the patio bar behid it. They had the nets strung over the open to keep the mangos from hitting you as the fell from the tree. They also had the one across the street from the liquor store that if you did not know it was there you would miss it. They used to run the $10,000 super bowl pool every year.

Euromax, twelve years ago, i was sitting in the dark, with a candle burning, supplying a little light. Leonel had just promised to fix the electricity mess on a priority basis. as we speak, i am sitting in the dark, with my candle going. the power stays on for 2 hours at a time, not long enough to charge my invertor. we are going forward; i trust you! 50 years from now, i will have electricity 4 hours per day. and i do not live in a "campo".

Bombay was pretty decent years ago as was Tu Tu Bene at the Danish Manor@ 1 company St. Generoso, why would we have to worry about speaking/expressing our minds (free speech). That appears to be a major problem in the DR, everyone is too sensetive and fearful of expressing themselves. After all, the truth is harsh at times! LF is a LOSER and very rich at that. Could be Stix or maybe that was the one a few streets uphill. GC is right, St. Croix before Hugo was a happening spot. As with any island there was a lot of petty theft, but like I said I was told from day one on the island-"Leave your car doors unlocked and nothing of value inside"

kmnupe, it is atrocious. at a bare minimum, you are without electricity for a half of the clock hours in a day. if you have no inverter, forget it. besides, many people will tell you that the inverters do not even get a long enough period of recharge to stay on while the street power is off. it is a disaster.

i was told many years ago that GENERAL ELEC....... was in the dr to produce elec. for the country but they are asked to leave.....i was told to make room for some drug backed companys to operate in the country, i guess its a way for them to clean their money., selling elec....
