SANTO DOMINGO.- After recognizing of Interior and Police Ministry’s measure prohibiting civilians from bearing firearms this month is odious, Armed Forces minister Pedro Rafael Peña said the military will also have to abide by it.
He said all citizens will have to adhere to the disposition, so the carriers of illegal guns can be identified. “All Dominicans must adhere to the measure; the members of the Armed Forces will also be prevented from carrying weapons this Christmas." He sad the disposition is a plan pilot "to see what happens and what we can do with the measure in the future."
Peña said the idea is to obtain a greater control and more education for those who bear guns, many of whom he said "don’t even know how to clean them.”

Many military do not know how to clean and maintain their weapons either, military and police should not have the franchise and exclusivity on self defense or personal protection, au contraire many civilians can give lessons on proper gun handling and maintenance to most military except a select few.
