Santo Domingo.- Eighteen family members of former Dominican army captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo who was extradited to the United States in 2005 following a massive cocaine haul in the Dominican Republic are under special protection and will be leaving the country for the United States once the legal process is over.

A Santo Domingo court has summoned Quirino’s brother Quirilio Paulino Castillo (Danilo), Zaira Castillo Ramírez (his mother), Anderson Paulino Ubrí (one of his sons), Luis Marmolejos Féliz, Felícita Consuelo Medrano Mercedes, Elba Féliz Matos, Ricardo Encarnación Castillo and Diomaris Marmolejos, who is the mother of seven of the extradited drug trafficker’s children.

The court will issue its final verdict on the RD$400 million money laundering charges against the relatives. It is believed that these will be withdrawn as part of a plea-bargain by Quirino with the New York court, in return for him revealing details of the masterminds behind the smuggling operations.

According to reports, the number of Quirino’s relatives who will be leaving the country has now reached 18.

The DR authorities are also working with the US embassy on the issue of Belkis Elizabeth Ubrí Medrano, Quirino’s wife, whose US visa was canceled when the scandal broke, so that her visa is reinstated.

Ubrí Medrano is waiting for the results of an appeal against a five-year money laundering sentence.

Quirino’s mother Quirino, Zaira Castillo Ramírez, his brother Quirilio Paulino, his son Anderson Paulino Ubrí, and the mother of several of his children Diomaris Marmolejos have retained their US visas and it is reported that they even traveled to the US to visit the extradited drug trafficker.

Great way to get a US VISA... my girfriend is Quirino's daughter from his first amante/concubina. Give her a VISA too. Got to love our US tax money at work. Yes, I do pay US Income Tax. US State Dept. a question for you? Have you pulled Vivian Lubrano's USA Visa or Passport? She should not be allowed to travel to the USA, as she remains a CRIMINAL.

Good point. None of those scum who got pardoned.

Even if they give back the money and tell their own people who were the ‘mastermind’.

There we go again… contradiction in terms…

Wait a minute, Mr. Quirino has not told the whole story yet? he has not yet revealed the names of the masterminds on the operation? extradited since 2005 and it is almost 2009? he is a real businessman, he is going to negotiate half of the DR to go under protection and leave the country. This is kind of funny!

The American Embassy is approving all this stuff. Drugs are still in my barrio of Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) in Santiago near the Cibao Stadium on the side near the Children's Hospital and School. Nothing has changed for us ...only there is an increase in drugs from street gang leader CHOPPO (aka Jose Annibal Lopez Pichardo).

This Fannin & US Justice Dept strategy is worthless! It is all very reactive whereas the Paulino game in RD Gov was going on for years. Now, there are NEW players moving drugs now.

The US is not taking a dime of the confiscated money and capital assets.

It’s the Dominican politician that will steal this instead of helping you fight the drugs in your barrio.

It sickens me to think that it is Dominicans killing Dominicans with this poison.

I suggest you taking good quality movies of this scum and make sure the US media get copies (youtube and all). Covert please, if they would kill you with drugs they sure as hell will kill you outright.

JD, why don't the Dominicans do something about the problem in your barrio? Why do you insist that the US do it for you? and please don't tell me it is because of the corruption etc etc. If the Dominicans can't take care of themselves why should anyone else??
