Santo Domingo. – The senior leader of ruling PLD party Euclídes Gutiérrez Felix revealed Sunday that the entity’s Political Committee withheld 40 cases of corruption in the Hipólito Mejía government that were ready for indictments in exchange for the country’s governance.
In that regard, he said opposition PRD party president Ramon Alburquerque doesn’t have the moral quality to accuse the Government of corruption because he violated several legal principles while he was senator of Monte Plata province.
Gutiérrez said he made the statement after he heard the journalist Nuria Piera challenge him to explain why he said president Leonel Fernandez and him would go to jail, “because if these crazy adventurers of the PRD take the government, we’ll all go to prison, because we have 40 cases of ex officials members of the PRD that we didn’t take to court, because in the PLD we are a democratic party and we decided to all vote not to take them to justice.”
The Insurance Superintendence spoke after a meeting of the PLD national leadership, headed by Fernandez.

By the way, isn't it time for these clowns to start littering the roads, towns and cities with the billboards promoting their crooks for office. The election was over in May and I am suffering withdrawal from seeing these smiling gavons wasting my money on billboards and signs promoting their group. If someone forms a new political party, for its name may I recommend "AliBaba and his 4000 thieves".

Finally, someone prints the facts about DR gov't, and yet we refuse to read it.
To me all this is saying is. "Yeah we are corrupt, but so were you. So let's call it even and keep shut."
Meanwhile all of us go crazy thinking one party is better than any other...

i am old and more often than not i am forgetful. but i recall posting many times about the unwritten pact between government officials : i will not prosecute your guys if you leave my guys alone. it is called "honor among thieves".

nobody in the PLD nor PRD wants to open that can and start dealing with the corruption, a lesson taken from the Republicans and the Democrats in the USA. "We're both equally dirty, so let's not even go there."

exactly, Username; you just chose to express it in New York vernacular. leave me alone, i will leave you alone. we will agree to take our "etiqueta de turno", steal what we can, then give you your turn. these guys are not the enemies that they purport to be in public. that is just a dog and pony show, to confuse the masses. when you cannot see them, they are all playing poker together in smoky back rooms, whooping it up, and drinking fine whisky. then they plan how to divide the spoils.

Dreadlocks, they would be stupid if they started down that path. The government here is a cash-cow that just keeps on giving, so why stop the milk from flowing. You remember what happened to the Account Chamber judges a few months back; some spoke up and in the end they ALL got sacked and replaced with the smart ones, the ones that keep their mouths shut and their palms open. That was a good lesson to everyone who even though about putting the cow on a leash.

Username, there is no shame in these guys' game, they wear dishonesty as a badge of honor, because they know that nobody can do squat about it. who is going to stop them? the courts? the opposition? the people? not really!

The courts - mostly all Leonel's buddies.
The opposition - Miguel can talk all he wants about how great of a businessman he is and his projects all over Latin America, he knows he made his seed millions during Hippo's administration on The Santo Domingo Hotel & Casino deal, which he bought from the government for peanuts, them turned around and sold it for millions.
The people - 85% have no idea what those guys are doing, 10% do and are benefiting from it, 5% know but are powerless to do anything.

Username, i think you arithmetic is absolutely correct. i would say, however , that nobody can do anything.

The people who tried to clean the corruption up have long realized: "if you can't beat them, join them; it's easier and more rewarding", and thank God there is no constitutional limit on the number of deputy-ministers and senior advisers an administration can have, so the wheel is greased, it keeps turning and nothing (nobody) important is squealing. The only ones who are, are the outsiders who are not getting their cut.

Dreadloks you and some other identity seekers why don't you comment on what is happening in haiti or at your house? you pretend been more dominican than the dominicans. I feel you still have some thing good you can do for Haiti . Did you know that we dream to prosperous like the dominicans for they don't amputate our legs and arms. The only thing stopping us is your participation. I personnaly invited some investors to Haiti we need more people to do that come on . Can't you see it's time now to be ourselves we are almost to many in the DR they feel the pressure that is why they are killing your cousins with no goverment to say anything
From: United States
dominique, i do confess that i am left a little puzzled by your posting. firstly, i am not haitian. i have no idea how you arrived at that conclusion, but i can assure you that it is in error. i have no plans to "do anything " about the conditions in haiti, simply because i comment on issues in the DR. i have my opinions on the war in afganistan, also, but i am not going to be heading off to the halls of the US congress any time soon, in order to effect or plead for its cessation. "identity seekers"? i have been called everything in the book before, but that is novel.

Please forgive me. So often as I read the comments I see the other bloggers refer to you as Haitian hater I'm for the most part questionning either you were brought in the DR and left at an early age or Idon't know. I'm trully sorry I'm not my self since I saw this horrible video of a dominican choppping the arms of a striiped clothe haitian pleading for mercy. Once again forgive me I could not even sleep as I never saw any cruelty as such
