SANTO DOMINGO. - The New York South District Office of the Prosecutor yesterday disclosed the arrest of Francisco Estévez, alias Danilo, identified as an employee of the Dominican Consulate in that city, on charges of using his diplomatic passport and of the seven members of his family to enter “dozens of undocumented immigrants from the Dominican Republic between 2007 and 2008.”
Immediately the Dominican Foreign Relations Ministry said Estévez had been dismissed from post on October 23, after the consul in New York, Eduardo Selman complained of his conduct.
In a statement acting prosecutor Lev L. Dassin said the “full-time employee of the consulate” owned a diplomatic visa (A-2) that allowed him and his wife, mother, and six children “to reside in the United States and pass the airport passport control expeditiously.”
Estévez, 48, was designated auxiliary in the Consulate in New York March 21, 2005 with presidential decree, and from October 2007, to July this year entered dozens of Dominicans posing as members of his family, whom he allegedly charged US$10,000 to take them to the United States.
The indictment, including that of the Homeland Security Department, charges Estévez of traveling an average of twice a month to Dominican Republic “identifying foreigners who could pass as members of his family.”
The ex-official, arrested Friday as he entered the United States and could face 20 years in prison, will be arraigned tomorrow by a judge in the Pennsylvania East District.

Dominican Republic diplomatic passport holders have a bad reputation both in the USA and in Europe for doing many illegal scams, human trafficking, contraband, you name it.
This arrest doesn't come as a surprise because corruption and lack of morals are rampant in our society. But this guy really went the extra mile to tarnish the DR's reputation and violate many articles of the immigration laws in the US, knowingly smuggling persons that could be carrying drugs, infectious diseases, be convicted criminals or even worse terrorists at large.
This is really serious crime and abuse of power and an example should be made with the perpetrator and punish him with a lengthy sentence to serve in a federal penitentiary not just a slap in the wrist, and then deportation. It is just shameful.

No one can say for sure what the outcome of this case will be relative to a conviction or possible length of jail time imposed. The evidence and facts of which are not yet public record. Some factors to consider that may influence the outcome include but of course are not limited to:
1) Obviously the strength of the case evidence in the hands of the US Atty. (i.e. financial records, witnesses and wire taps)
2) The existing hot button issue of illegal immigration trafficking and the vulnerability the US can experience through terrorist organizations infiltration of the country in this same manner.
3) Mr. Dassin is the acting US Atty. the president-elect will decide who will become the US Atty. that will have jurisdiction in this case. If this case carries on will it be prosecuted with the same vigor by a US Att. that "inherits" the case?

I doubt this man would be facing arraignment if there were not strong factual evidence of the charges being presented at his arraignment. But please remember, we cannot assume that this man is guilty of anything. Let the facts come out before any rash judgements are rendered. He is going to be tried in a court of law, not a court of public opinion.

http://www.ice.gov/pi/nr/0812/081208newyork.htmEstevez is charged with two counts of alien smuggling and if convicted, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Estevez was arrested Friday upon his entry into the United States and is scheduled to be presented Tuesday before a United States Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Assistant United States Attorney Arianna R. Berg is in charge of the prosecution. The charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Jander,
Assistant US Attorney Arianna R. Berg will prosecute the case but the acting US Attorney will be responsible for directing and approving the strategies for prosecution. Whatever the case, if this man is found to be guilty of any or all the indictments, his fate and disgrace are his own. I don't agree that it would or should be a source of insolence for anyone but the person who commited the crime. Some posts comment that this is a disgrace for Dominicans, I don't see why that would be the case since Dominicans were not responsible for this alleged act, if Mr. Estevez is guilty he and only he will be disgraced. When a Dominican attains an accomplishment of great magnitude do the outside masses celebrate the person or the country? Then why should the country suffer any indignity when a son of the republic commits an alleged act of larcenous behavior?

Gereroso FYI all female animals (all femals animals) give up a faint odor when they are in heat.
Dogs , cats and the cat family (tiger) their nose are shaped in a way to pick up faint smell then they send the odor to a gland in their brains that amplify the odor 3000 times to attract the attention of the males from great distances
Women gave also that faint smell when they are in heat ( H___Y)but it is masked by the use of deodorants and other perfumes that they use.
If a woman does not shower dor three days and she is in heat , when a man approares her he is going to get exited ( use your imagination for the order word) when his brain picks up the faint odor
