SANTO DOMINGO. - President Leonel Fernandez has an advantage of 13 percentage points over his closest rival, opposition PRD party candidate Miguel Vargas and is close to reaching the majority required to win in the first round, a Greenberg-Diario Libre survey says.

Fernandez leads with 47 percent in the intention of voter against Vargas’ 34 percent, or two points less than his lead of 15 points in a November poll.

The survey said opposition PRSC candidate Amable Aristy has 10 percent.

The pollster Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, based in Washington DC, conducted the survey with 1,200 eligible voters, between January 28 and February 3. It has a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points, Diario Libre says.

On November 30, a Penn & Schoen poll gave Fernandez 50 percent, to Vargas’ 35 percent.

With all the public money he is spending, all the political parties he has bought, all the press selling out to him, all the paid cross over from other political parties and he has gone from 50% to 47%.
