Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez himself was the "conductor" for Santo Domingo’s subway first public test run, less than two hours after promising it in a morning television interview today Tuesday.

The 20 kilometer-per-hour test run spanned several kilometers began at 10:10 a.m. between the main station at Santo Domingo North and concluded three stops later.

Fernandez, jokingly announcing the stops to the "passengers" mostly reporters and officials, said the subway work represents progress, and said it‘ll be a "much more extensive run" on February 27.

I personally think that if Hipolito and his gang of Drug Dealing Thugs would have still been in power, by this late in the game most Dominicans would be riding on Donkey drown carts. Some are complaining and whining about the Metro, but I bet that those same complainers and whiners will be the first ones to ride the Metro for all it's worth. And will still continue to complain and whine because that's all theu are good for. Leonel continue to good work and we look forward to the completion of the Metro's lines two, three and four.

From two bad administration, as wells as two different Metro possibilities, ones never look better that the other.
“Critical Thinking“.

Building an underground Metro at DR wouldn’t be “as bad as” an idea if an above ground monorail were considered it.

Had someone though for a second what would it be the differences between the two?.

Ground removal and Concrete tunneling !!!!

NEWS BREAKING STORY

The first mugging has occurred on the METRO!

The alleged perpetrators are reported to be wearing purple tshirts with three yellow letters: PLD. Apparently this gang was under control for four years by another gang who's colors are white with three letters reported to be PRD. But they have now comeback with a vengeance pillaging and stealing everything and anything in its path.

The suspects are at large, or is it living large, are driving big gas guzzling Japanese SUVs headed in the direction of the National Palace.

Oh, yes the victims are reported to be 9, 000, 000 DOMINICANS. Plus the world wide diaspora that has to send money to support their families while the gang continues to mug the national resources for their own benefit, expecting the Dominicans overseas to resolve the country's problems with there remittances.

An ear witness heard them say as they sped off "Eh, Palante Que Vamaos"!

Call Vincho Castillo if you have information.

Some of these posts are really a joke. Some people just do not get tired of the whining. I mean grow up. Some are worst than children. I bet if it was their "political party" that was building the Metro, the story would be different and they would all be walking around hit their chests with pride. But being that is Leonel the one that pushed for it and is in power at the time of it's creation, than you see all the "losers" come out of the wood work to complain and whine. The bottom line is this, it does not matter under who's government the Metro was constructed, because it was something that was going to happen regardless of wether some of us are for it or not. In the end Dominican society as a whole will benefit from it. Progess come in many ways and forms. The Metro is just one example. And for those that continue to complain about how expensive the Metro is, I just have one thing to say, Progress is not cheap. It is the investment of an entire society, regardless of the cost.

I'm sure when the first airport was built there were complainers and whiners saying, we have no planes and we do not need them. We do not need any one w/ a plane to come here. So we do not need any airport. I'm sure when the first roadway/highway was built, there were complainers and whiners saying we do not have cars, we do not need them. We do not need any paved roads we have horses and mules. So why should anything be different with the Metro. Some of us just do not see beyond the tip of our noses and have no clue to what the progressive thinkning is.

I highly doubt that the Metro will be a disaster. You know how many Dominicans are fed up and tired of those "good old boys" transit unions increasing fairs at their leasure and having strikes at a whim. The masses are left to fend for themselves cause its survival of the fittest. The Metro will hopefully offer people an alternative to those crooks and thieves. It's those same crooks that hurt and injure people trying to get to work or to school during one of their so called strikes. I can't wait when the other three lines of the Metro are finished. Maybe it will put an end to those public transit Mafiosos once an for all.

Welcome to all the negative comments at the end even myself was opposed to believe and support this goverment business plan.

At the end the country will keep it and its people will ride, enjoy support and even better the enviroment will take a break from all the pollution in Santo Domingo.

The whole planet is going green rigth now so regardless in how was builded, founded or made it We will show to the rest of the planet that We could make a "BIG" difference.

The United States of America "The biggest and most powerful country in the planet" also "The biggest polluter" don't want to support the "Kyoto protocol" and recently in a Asia reunion one of the smallest countries in this planet and which right now I don't remember the name "I'm sorry"

Quote "If the US don't want to comply with the Kyoto protocol" please leave the decision to the rest of the planet and We can maybe decide to take a good decision.

I rather have Leonel and his crew run the show than the PRD. Everytime they're in power some really awfull crap happens to our country. For exmaple, just to name a few recent ones, the selling of acres of land of our national parks, the building of "private airstrips" that Mafiosos have constructed under the nose of the government and last but not least, the fall of one of the largest banks in Latin America "Baninter". Why do such corrupt events follow the PRD time after time? I'm sure that if they win (God forbid) our country will end up being sold in some pawnshop in Russia. But if Dominicans do learn from past failures, even though I think that Leonel has a lot of things that he needs to work on as a leader, right now he is the best of the candidates for the job and ultimately he will win. In other owrds right now he is the lesser of the evil, that we have to choose from. The other pimps can't wait to just get their hands on the country to prostitute it to the highest bidder.

I talked to a lot of people and try to explain to them why is not goop to acept money from politictian and guess what they won't have it. they rather take the $50.00 and go get the drunk than go and try to do something better for our. I myself don't belong to either party just care that the person in power give me and the people the want to move forward the oportunity to try. on like a lot people that only vote because they are specting a job with the goverment. people need to realize non of them isn't going to do anything for them and start thinking about their grandkids.

and what do you think of mr bush he is a lier that is getting anyone who is american in a lot of trouble because of his idea of trying to change other people way of living and thinking. why does he think that the arab world is going to change to the american way. it just doesn't happen so soon. that is what makes this planet so great because you could travel and learn other people way of live and not just try to make them live it your way.
