Santo Domingo.- The journalist Nuria Piera yesterday said she doesn’t have anything to recant in response to Education minister’s Alejandrina German’s deadline regarding her reportage on a summer house the official builds in a mountain of Jarabacoa.

She said she’s willing to defend her work in court

German, who accuses Piera of slander, gave the journalist and television producer a 72 hour deadline to repeal the a news article’s content on the construction of her house, in the mountains of Jarabacoa (central), or otherwise will take her to court.

Piera, who spoke in the program Nuria & Huchi on CDN, said the official attributes to her affirmations that aren’t certain, such as the fact that the house is supposedly worth 40 or 50 million pesos. She said in her report the property’s average cost is stated as 20 million pesos. "We’ll see each other in court. I’m also preparing myself with my team of lawyers. I don’t have anything to recant."

It would appear that Piera is calling German's bluff and is prepared to defend her assertions in a court of law.
The outcome of such litigation, should it come to pass, will be enlightening. Maybe we'll find out where a lot of the money for Education has ended up as a result.
What if Piera's assertions are true?
Will German be required to explain away this assertion, or will such result in yet another Scandal within the Leonel Administration.
Will such a Scandal result in German being charged with malfeasance in office and embezzlement of Public funds?
Is all this Politically motivated, or are the facts in the case supportive of the assertions?
The situation has many ramfications, doesn't it?
We'll wait and see what the fallout is.

that piera lady is like that because she is a liberal whom defents the criminal when they get cought and kill by the police but do not care about the real victims people that work hard and saved money for one year to buy a tv and get stolen by those criminals. and also at the same time says that the justice system here is no good. she cannot have both way. if she is right i will loved to see german in jail but if she is wrong i love to see her go to jail for all the bad things that she has says for many year to many people;

It appears Ms. Piera must be doing a good job as a journalist,. She is getting heat from all sides. It takes courage to put yourself out there with hard-hitting stories. If Ms Piera is wrong let the courts decide, if she is correct, perhaps Ms German should resign. Either way, Ms Piera has little to gain from telling the truth as she sees it. Please keep up I good work, Ms Piera, even when I do not agree with you. This is what democracy is all about, freedom of speech and freedom of the press. All of us should remember how fragile democracy is, and be thankful for journalists like Ms. Piera. Right or wrong, she is simply defending the rights we now enjoy.

Nuria is a fraud and a racist, she is anti American and rarely reports on the cases of GRINGOS who have been crime victims in the DR. I have been trying to get her to investigate my case for 5 years, after sending numerous e-mails and faxes, Nuria has never contacted me.

My ($100,000 USD) house in Santo Domingo was swindled from me in 2004. Fraudulent loans and forged sales contracts were used by Faustino Palmas Garcia to steal the house. After 2 trials and thousands of dollars in legal fees, the corrupt (bribe taking) Santo Domingo courts acquitted Mr. Palmas.

Nuria is nothing more than a cheap publicity seeking Diva. She travels to New York often and enjoys our freedoms but when an American needs her help, she shows her true colors
