Santo Domingo.– Dominican president Leonel Fernandez could secure another term in office in an upcoming election, according to a poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research published in Diario Libre. 47 per cent of respondents would back Fernandez of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in the May ballot.
Opposition candidate Miguel Vargas Maldonado of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) is second with 34 per cent, followed by Amable Aristy Castro of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) with 10 per cent, Eduardo Estrella of the Fourth Way (LCV) with two per cent, and Pedro Candelier of the Popular Alliance Party (PAP) with one per cent.
In the May 2004 presidential election, Fernandez received 57.11 per cent of the vote, defeating incumbent Hipólito Mejía of the PRD and Estrella of the PRSC. Fernández had previously served as the Dominican Republic’s head of state from 1996 to 2000.
One of Fernandez’s staple projects has been the construction of a subway in Santo Domingo. According to official figures, the project will cost a total $710 million U.S. –over two per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The president has faced criticism for spending so much on the project, instead of dealing with other pressing issues. He has defended the subway as a necessity for the country’s capital.
On Feb. 13, Fernandez and members of his cabinet took a test ride in the new subway. The president said afterwards that the trip was "formidable" and assured the subway will be functioning in time for Dominican Independence Day on Feb. 27.
The next presidential election is scheduled for May 16.

After taking a closer look at the pollster, Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Resear, that did the poll, I now believe I tragically pinned the wrong ideological and political label on the firm.
You will recall that I labeled the abused firm as moderate to reactionary.
I happily take this back.
Now, I label it as moderate to liberal.
Naturally, the firm is solidly bourgeois.
As for the presence of certain reactionary corporations and individuals of the firm's long client list, I now believe that this reactionary infestation reflects a lamentable greed for fees and other compensation rather than the ideological and political point of view that prevails at the firm.
My apology is abject and my anguish over my mistake in labelling is limitless.

A political scientist who received his Bachelor's Degree from Miami University and his Ph.D. from Harvard, Greenberg spent a decade teaching at Yale University before becoming a political consultant. His 1985 study of Reagan Democrats in Macomb County, Michigan became a classic of progressive political strategy, and the basis for his continuing argument that Democrats must actively work to present themselves as populists advocating the expansion of opportunity for the middle class. As the pollster for Clinton in 1992, Greenberg was a major figure in the famed campaign "war room" (and hence the documentary film of the same name).

GDP per capita is a funny number that deliberately distorts reality, by dividing national income by the population.
Under capitalism, a large chunk of the national income goes exclusively to the bourgeoisie, both local and foreign. This chunk of the national income set aside for the bourgeoisie should not be included in the division because it exaggerates the amount of income that appears to go into the pckets of the population.
Take the bourgeois chunk out and then divide the remainder by the population.
The result is a number that approximates reality significantly better than the tricky procedure so popular in bourgeois economics.
Now, let's look at the concrete side of the GDP.

Because DR and Cuba have populations of similar sizes -- 9 and 11 million respectively -- and other similarities, the questionable CIA data on the DR and Cuba give a revealing comparison.
According to the CIA, Cuba had a 2007 GDP of $51 billion and a per capita GDP of $4,500 with a poverty rate of "NA%."
https://www.cia.gov/library/publi....-world-factbook/geos/cu.html#EconThe DR had a 2007 GDP of $85 billion and per capita GDP of $9,200 with a poverty rate of 42%.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publi....-world-factbook/geos/dr.html#EconHow can a country with per capita GDP that is more than twice that of the other country enjoy, at the same time, such a commanding lead in poverty over the other?
In reality, the whole $51 billion of the Cuban GDP is divided among the 11 Cubans and almost nothing goes to the bourgeoisie which is entirely foreign. That's communism.

But in reality, the greedy bourgeoisie, local and foreign, in the DR pockets at least $65 billion of the $85 billion GDP of the DR, leaving something like a paltry $20 billion ... or less ... for the 9 million Dominicans to cut up. That's capitalism.
Naturally, the $20 billion - or less - isn't enough for the 9 million Dominicans to wipe out poverty as in Cuba.
What does the CIA mean by "NA%" poverty in Cuba?
The CIA is talking about extreme poverty, that is, the near total lack of food, shelter, health care, and education.
None of this exists in Cuba; therefore, Cuba has "NA%" poverty or no poverty. Everybody has ration card that supplies them with highest caloric and protein daily intake in Latin America and Caribbean. Everybody has at least a room or part of one and often much more. Everybody has health care. Everybody has schools. So, Cuba has neither affluence nor poverty. That's a lot more than any other country in Latin America and the Caribbean can say.

But in the DR with its great wealth, its million dollar plus homes and some of the finest restaurants in the world, almost 1 out of two Dominicans, 42%, lack food or shelter or hospitals or schools or all of the above, according to the CIA.
Reactionaries do not blame their rotten capitalist system for this tragedy. They usually blame an alleged congenital weakness that they find in the Dominican people, hinting at racial inferiority.
That racial composition of the DR and Cuba are very similar is something they choose to ignore.

Also, according to DR tax data given on loans for intance the 710 million being 2% of the GDP makes the dominican economy stand a 35 biilion us dollars but the world fact book has different data of 85 miilion and 22.5 respectevely. GDP is calculated differently by every country and thus making it much harder to understand.

Yes, I can't vouch for the reliability of the data published by the CIA.
It's just that I'm a little put off by the frequent criticism that I rely exclusively on data from my splendid, solid, and sound Marxist-Leninist sources.
I believed it would be fun to cite ... for a change ... information from the CIA, with link provided, and then listen to the mob of reactionary crackpots argue that the CIA is also a "splendid, solid, and sound Marxist-Leninist source" of information because the conclusion that necessarily follows from the CIA data is that socialism outperforms capitalism in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Common ground there.
With a 42 percent poverty rate and extreme poverty at that, the IMF, World Bank, IADB, and the Paris Club believe that far too much of the $85 billion national income of the DR is squandered on the wages of the vast majority of working Dominicans and on a few paltry social programs in lieu of wages.
These ravenous international financial institutions of imperialism demand that more of the DR national income go to the payment of interest, dividends, executive salaries, and rents, the main sources of bourgeois income.

The above are some of the former clients of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research which did the poll.
Clearly, Greenberg is a moderate to reactionary outfit, but Greenberg may be slightly more honest than Gallup.
Greenberg appears to have more ties with the US Democrats than with the rotten GOPs, but its long client list boasts hard-core reactionaries, too
You will recall that I labeled the abused firm as moderate to reactionary.
* Rep. Rosa DeLauro: DeLauro is a longtime Sen. Dodd ally, serving as the senator's chief of staff for much of the 1980s before being elected to Congress in 1990. She is married to Stan "Greenberg" and will be one of the national co-chairs of the Dodd candidacy. http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2007/01/dodd_inner_circle.html
Not a very Reputable Polling Firm, represents Democrats at US.
Wasn't Sen. Dodd visiting DR's in resent months. LOL

DR's Numbers, uhmmm ???
LOL
Does anyone know or can lead me to the right place, where i can find the actual size of the economy. 710 million being 2% of the economy is incompatable with the world factbook data of 22.55.

This guy sounds like one them flaming liberals. He must be very good at his job if them reactionaries also seek him out.
In the DR, It appears he switched from the PRD to of late the PLD as a client.
I wonder what he charges for a presidential poll ... probably about $300,000.
Miguel Vargas Maldonado (PRD) 34% Sucks!!!!!! :0

This are the minds of smart Dominican people, just like me :D
We must pin the right ideological and political label on him; otherwise, the exercise of pinning label on people will cease to give us pleasure.
and power in there hand to inform the Dominican people, can show this...!!!!
China's GDP - per capita is: $5,300
Chinas's Population below poverty line: 8%
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dominican Rep's GDP - per capita is: $9,200
Dominican Rep's below poverty line: 42.2% & GDP per year is $22.54 billion
than why the hell, is theres so much non-sense conflicts and poverty!
i dont think that theres a reason for this, the politicians are the ones that have made the country
a 3rd world country, and a bet you if everybody worked together since the beggining and be more
efficient, smart, nothing of this crap will happen.... just copy Costa Rica & Chile , thats a good
example of pregress!!!
This is what happens with bad goverment

Under capitalism, a large chunk of the national income goes exclusively to the bourgeoisie, both local and foreign. This chunk of the national income set aside for the bourgeoisie should not be included in the division because it exaggerates the amount of income that appears to go into the pckets of the population.
Take the bourgeois chunk out and then divide the remainder by the population.
The result is a number that approximates reality significantly better than the tricky procedure so popular in bourgeois economics.
Now, let's look at the concrete side of the GDP.
CON'T
Because DR and Cuba have populations of similar sizes -- 9 and 11 million respectively -- and other similarities, the questionable CIA data on the DR and Cuba give a revealing comparison.
According to the CIA, Cuba had a 2007 GDP of $51 billion and a per capita GDP of $4,500 with a poverty rate of "NA%."
https://www.cia.gov/library/publi....-world-factbook/geos/cu.html#Econ
The DR had a 2007 GDP of $85 billion and per capita GDP of $9,200 with a poverty rate of 42%.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publi....-world-factbook/geos/dr.html#Econ
How can a country with per capita GDP that is more than twice that of the other country enjoy, at the same time, such a commanding lead in poverty over the other?
In reality, the whole $51 billion of the Cuban GDP is divided among the 11 Cubans and almost nothing goes to the bourgeoisie which is entirely foreign. That's communism.
CON'T
CON'T
Reactionaries do not blame their rotten capitalist system for this tragedy. They usually blame an alleged congenital weakness that they find in the Dominican people, hinting at racial inferiority.
That racial composition of the DR and Cuba are very similar is something they choose to ignore.
THE END
China's GDP - per capita is: $5,300
Chinas's Population below poverty line: 8%
```````````````````````````
Dominican Rep's GDP - per capita is: $9,200
Dominican Rep's below poverty line: 42.2% & GDP per year is $22.54 billion
Note: DR's numbers are taking on account "Narco-Laundry". Thats why hi GDP, perhaps I'm wrong.
Also, according to DR tax data given on loans for intance the 710 million being 2% of the GDP makes the dominican economy stand a 35 biilion us dollars but the world fact book has different data of 85 miilion and 22.5 respectevely. GDP is calculated differently by every country and thus making it much harder to understand.
None of this exists in Cuba; therefore, Cuba has "NA%" poverty or no poverty. Everybody has ration card that supplies them with highest caloric and protein daily intake in Latin America and Caribbean. Everybody has at least a room or part of one and often much more. Everybody has health care. Everybody has schools. So, Cuba has neither affluence nor poverty. That's a lot more than any other country in Latin America and the Caribbean can say."......do you believe this? you would have to be out of your gord.....this guy actually is a school teacher disseminating this basura to someones children.....pretty soon C.C. the statues are coming down both the phony doctor and the beard
well said
Yes, I can't vouch for the reliability of the data published by the CIA.
It's just that I'm a little put off by the frequent criticism that I rely exclusively on data from my splendid, solid, and sound Marxist-Leninist sources.
I believed it would be fun to cite ... for a change ... information from the CIA, with link provided, and then listen to the mob of reactionary crackpots argue that the CIA is also a "splendid, solid, and sound Marxist-Leninist source" of information because the conclusion that necessarily follows from the CIA data is that socialism outperforms capitalism in Latin America and the Caribbean.
I know well that dishonest people will never embrace this conclusion.
There is no possibility that this adoption will ever occur with my enemies. If it did occur, I would grieve.
I demand an apology from my misdirected critics to my enemies for the injustice done.
Who Can Answer ??
0000
Yes, "something" is a splendid thing, but unfortunately it doesn't keep very well.
"RULE OF LAW"
0000
For the humans who are trafficked, bought and sold and subjected to forced labor [and many others] ... as the First Lady of the Dominican Republic and as the 2007 Report on Human Trafficking of the US State Department allege ... it isn't.
"RULE OF LAW"
oooo
Aristotle, the ancient one, says either law or man rules society.
I much prefer law over man. especially bourgeois creatures or critters.
poverty rate : na simply means (not available), this is due to the back that fidel's government does not want you to know. remember :na (not available, meaning that they simply don't have the data). it does not mean zero poverty.
This is the only reason, GDP and Per capita", look very favorable on sums eyes combined with this DR "Economical Growth".
That’s why my rejection to this actual DR Adm., there’s two type of leaders, one that “govern for their countryman” and the other type of leader that “govern the countryman“.
Every Country now and then, always get to choose their "Fate".
Note: "Countries had the Presidents they deserved", as we heard in the past>
0000
Be a sport and not put the omniscient CIA down.
"NA" doesn't mean not available. It means not available to you because it distresses the Agency.
oooo
Common ground there.
With a 42 percent poverty rate and extreme poverty at that, the IMF, World Bank, IADB, and the Paris Club believe that far too much of the $85 billion national income of the DR is squandered on the wages of the vast majority of working Dominicans and on a few paltry social programs in lieu of wages.
These ravenous international financial institutions of imperialism demand that more of the DR national income go to the payment of interest, dividends, executive salaries, and rents, the main sources of bourgeois income.
[Here's a link on the Paris Club before which the mass of the DR bourgeoisie grovel like dogs after they complete their tap dance performance.]
Statistics never lie. It depends on who uses them and how.
The way all of you are using statistics indicates to me that YOU REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE CITING.
Belial, when will you expand your vocabulary andquit plagarizing Marx, Lenin and Hegel???
Also, when you cite someone else's comments, PUT THE REMARK IN QUOTES. That way we will know who is speaking. you are so "tunnel vision" educated" I don't think you really know what you are talking about. You use other people's words because they look and sound good.
Too Bad, so sad, you're all MAD.
You left out Engels and Lukacs.
Do you believe your question is three times more profound because you used three question marks?
????????????????????????????
If so, you can again double its profundity by adding six question marks instead of only three.
0000
Your delirium signifies that you have administered too many hand jobs to yourself today.
Why don't you turn the motor off?
oooo
I see you understood.
But, really, I strove to be politely ambiguous.
I believe the censor perfectly understood too; but since you were the object of my ambiguous comment, the censor encouraged me.
