A beach near the Cacao hotel.
SANTO DOMINGO.- A group of soldiers accompanied by an alleged bailiff occupied the Cacao Beach Hotel and Casino yesterday afternoon, forcibly evicting dozens of European, Canadian and American tourists, as well as to more than 100 employees, breaking locks, safety-deposit boxes, and hurled to the street whatever furnishing they could carry and seized the facilities, according to a denunciation published by the newspaper El Nacional.
Pasqual Remigio Valenzuela, who said he owns the hotel, cautioned the authorities that actions of that nature cause irreparable damage to tourism. He said the military contingent has yesterday occupied the hotel since yesterday, and asked the Tourism Ministry to intervene.
Valenzuela said he bought the stake owned by the Italian Luigi Luesoli three years ago and despite paying the monthly installments on time, he was surprised to see Luesoli, accompanied by an alleged bailiff and the soldiers, who seized the hotel.

This just goes to show how bad an environment it is here for NON Dominicans. No law whatsoever and no comebacks for crap like this no matter if they were right or wrong.
Law and order is needed and if it was an American company I would hope for the Marines again!

Eso pasa por vacacionar en Rep. Dominicana.
I left the Dominican Republic in 1990 and moved to NY.. I spent my vacations in Hawaii, it is
sad to say, Hawaii is better than the Dominican Republic.. the beaches, the people, and the political system.

This news is sad. Like the DR needs even more bad news to scare tourism. Authorities must condemn theese acts. You can only destroy the good image of your country once. The work to rebuild it later requires lots of years and effort!

let us put it this way.......... the D.R. can be Tijuana image or it can be Acapulco image......meaning and I apologize to Mexico you can be.......Phony land deals and phony cigars and phony weddings, cheap and tawdry things or.....".Come fly with me "jet setters classy cliff divers and quality hotels.....get the picture.?.....you can be sure the public will if we dont clean up our act
From: Canada
I am amazed that with all the crime that exists in the DR, there are so many police at the premises of the hotel Cacao. You would think that they had something better to do like protect their citizens!!
How does a foreigner like Mr. Luesoli have so much power and influence?? Who does he know in the government and what is he giving them??
Come on Leonel open your eyes and see what's going on around you???
