Santo Domingo. - The evangelicals today Thursday demanded that the Supreme Court (SCJ) prioritize their challenge, filed several years ago, of the Dominican State’s pact (Concordat) with the Vatican as unconstitutional, before hearing the Sun Land case, recently taken to the high court.
During a protest carried out in front of the SCJ building, reverend Domingo Paulino Moya, president of the Evangelical Churches National Coordinator, said though they understand the importance of the Sun Land case, the challenge against the Concordat has been in the hands of the justices for a longer period whom have yet to hand down a ruling.
The Concordat, signed in 1954 during Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship (1930-1961), guarantees funds for the Catholic Church and recognizes it as the State religion.
The clergyman said the country’s evangelical population, which he said exceeds two million people, awaits the ruling. "It would be a moral and democratic crime and against the proper judicial order if the Sun Land is case heard and ruled on before the agreement between Trujillo and the Vatican."
He said it’s unacceptable that due to "national and international pressures" the SCJ rules first on case filed by the opposition PRD party, and asked the Chief Justice to desist from the "media activism” which in his view "doesn’t go well with his investiture," and attend cases pending sentence more diligently.

So much for freedom of religion and for separation of church and state ... out the window.
In the DR, the state establishes, funds, and recognizes an official religion, the Catholics, one of three largest Nazarene sects. The other two Nazarene sects are Protestant and Orthrodox, both the Protestant and Orthrodox are treated like non-divine or worldly garbage by the deal between the DR state and the Catholic Nazarenes.
It is a good thing that the Protestant and Orthrodox sects of the Nazarene movement are fighting for justice and for their dignity against the bigotry of the DR state and the arrogant Catholic fanatics.

There’s many hot dishes arriving to the “SCJ”, but this one its the hottest of all.!!!
I was once approach by an University researcher about this topic a few years back at the US, She ask me, Why there is an official religion in DR Constitution ? An if possible to establish a Catholic Church-State separation legislation ?
I was ask the questions around mid ninety’s and I’m still looking for the answer for her. I guess they found somebody at DR who might have the answer !!!
This event will spread all trough Latin America eventually, since every single Constitution contemplate the same deal beside Spanish been also the official language.
Professor Subero good luck with this one !!!

Can someone who is an expert on divine beings or on divine things ... or close to being one ... clarify a little matter?
Since the Catholic sect of Nazarenes is the only officIal religion in the DR, can a Dominican OFFICIALLY enter heaven if he or she is not a member of the Catholic sect?
Does the DR state withhold from non-Catholics a piece of paper or something that prevents their OFFICIAL admission into heaven?
In other words, must Nazarenes who are Protestants or orthrodox sneak into heaven?

By this state subsidy, Catholics steal money from taxpayers who don't believe in the Nazarene or believe in the Nazarene but not in the way the Catholic sect does or believes in the Nazarene in the way the Catholic sect does, but still supports the separation of church and state.
Catholic thieves use the state to pick the pockets.of the people.

Belial: Catholic church don't force c/o obligate any parishioner to donate c/o give money to the church, everything is done voluntarily.
Most of the other religions c/o sects ask for a mandatory 10% of the believers salary plus the biggest downside effect that They have is that They always want to make profit on bashing the Catholic church without any reason.
You have your right of opinion but look at the best Colleges and schools worldwide (US, Dominican Republic or else) and You will see that some of them are created, supported and guide by the catholic church.
After You finish both You will have strong foundation, good family values and one of the best
educations that anybody could get.

At the end the family values, support for a better society and country and always looking to improve, grow up and be a good citizen were the best values that I acquired going to catholic educational institutions.
At the end Anybody in any civilized society can see the big difference (foundation) of any human being once you finish your education.

This is a very delicate subject to get into. I rather say nothing and stick to non religious facts.
The fact is when the CONCORDAT was sign was to divide the church and STATE Also the NON
CATHLIC population was at a minimum, DR was only 3mns as opposed to today close to 9mns.
As for the others to get gvt help there is nothing wrong with that. As to make the CATHOLIC church the primary church in DR , yes i can see it being they were the first even before the protestants came to the New World .
In the USA mostly are all protestants ANGLO SAXON, exeption of the KENNEDIES, all presidents were protestant and the catholics always found themselves at a disadvantage I would not doubt if that was the reason they were assacinated !
Any one with common sence knows that "CATHOLIC SPAIN" was behind all the conquest in their
colonies and as such they stayed to the present . DR is not the only country which one should focus on but in all LA including west USA & FL,Not diferent from UK.

Mr Thelmoalemydarancier: you have a very good common sense on your opinions but also think about the middle east (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Morocco, etc) The majority is Muslim and I don't think anybody else would have the guts to promote any other religion because it will be a very sensitive issue.
Most ot the Latin America Countries (almost 100%) is catholic and I truly believe that this is a great legacy from Spain and Christopher Columbus.
Is tough not to admit that "The vatican and any pope in charge" are a great path to follow in terms of our religion background.
I do really love the Way I was raised, teached and nourish on terms of religion since I learn to respect the elders, my country, flag, the founding fathers, the family and do the utmost effort to help my Dominican society.

The Catholic church simply made a deal to survive and prosper at the time. It looked after number one. There is nothing wrong with that. The other religions should demand equal treatment under the law and get their fair share of the pie.

As I just finished reading about the catholic church during the Trujillo era, it is obvious that the Catholic church was the only organization available to help the oppressed during those years. Evangelicals were probably worried about finding ways to attack the Catholic church as it always been the case.

Religion has no business in Politics and I have always found it strange how in the forefront the Catholic Church has been. I think they need to get back in the closet along with all of their embarrassments.
I don't want to pay tax money that goes to the Catholic Church.

At the moment, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, is crawling in a crooked path around Cuba ... flicking his tongue out as he crawls ..., being ever so tactful in most of his public comments, while he still signals with infinite slyness, characteristic of a Catholic expert on divine beings and on divine things, that the Vatican is eagerly looking forward to an insurrection of the Cuban counter-revolutionaries against the revolutionary state in Havana.
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone is representative of or typifies the garbage or, better still, sewage ... fully infested by rats, roaches, flies, and maggots .... that has risen to the supreme leadership and total domination of the world's largest Nazarene sect.

I agree there should be separation of church and state, and wish these people luck in that court case. Still I feel that evangelical styles of Christianity present a sort of danger in a place like DR. At least the Catholic Church, as I know it here in NYC, places a lot of value on education, science, and institutionality. Also it does not rely on charismatic, emotional, anti-literate leadership. That latter part is what scares me; a bunch of excited Christians hootin' and hollerin' and singing, thinking not with their minds but with enthusiasm, focusing way too much on a promised afterlife than on building the here and now.
