SANTO DOMINGO. - The cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez urged the country’s military to defend its sovereignty by ridding it of drug trafficking. “It’s necessary to try fighting drug-traffickers on their own turf without wavering, it’s necessary to continue insisting that these people cannot have the right to be anywhere the world."

In a mass to mark the Founding Father Matías Ramon Mella’s birthday and the founding of the Armed Forces, the prelate said in many people have wavered in the war against drugs and “have ganged up with them, which is a true shame."

Lopez Rodriguez said people must be aware of what drug-traffic king’s danger means for humanity, describing them as an army of brigands and thugs ready to do anything. "I hope our Armed Forces have the capacity to confront this type of threat which could ruin not only the sovereignty, but the Dominican nation’s very health."

"We ask that all the members of the Armed Forces, ask the Lord to give them capacity, valor, physical and moral health to continue defending the interests of the mother country," the Cardinal said, adding that they are professionals since their training centers have the category of universities.

The Catholic Church is still doing the same thing it did since the times of Trujillo's dictatorship, condemning government's mistakes.

Pray for valor and moral health and the rest should follow... Morality is the problem Morals have been given the back seat to the drug dealers who drive the corruption.

Yes, it should be the Prez LF and his administration as well as all other parties working together in a united bi-partisan effort to be tougher on crime, end corruption and eliminate drug trafficking and the massive related crime! Unfortunately, it is a complicated issue and not as simple as it looks because of conflicts of interest where politicians and their political parties gain extraordinary profits from drug trafficking at multiple levels...

This is why criminals can deal drugs in broad daylight in my barrio of Los Platanitos (Ensanche Caonabo) as gangs gain wealth to buy apartment buildings, buy firearms and worse of all become more and more ANTI-AMERICAN. All of this disturbs me greatly because the RD does not have another partner like the US and US foreign aid. There are millions for the Metro, partisan campaigns, corruption but we can not get drug dealers off school routes and police only come to collect payoffs from the Picardo gang. I pray for stronger leadership!
