SANTO DOMINGO.- The boycott of Haitian products announced by producers and retailers in Dajabón province (northwest) materialized in several cross-border markets Monday, except Pedernales (southwest), where business continued almost as normal.

Meanwhile there’s no end in sight to the impasse over the Haiti government ban on chickens and eggs from Dominican Republic, while Haitian and international technicians investigate Dominican poultry farms to determine if there’s bird flu still present.

In Dajabón, whose RD$25 million in operations on Mondays and Fridays makes it the busiest border market, Dominican producers and retailers began their boycott in an effort to pressure Haiti’s authorities into ending the ban on chickens and eggs.

Dozens of Haitian merchants and their goods are stuck on their side of the border, unable to cross into Dominican Republic to buy and sell.

In Pedernales, Haitians participated in that market over the weekend, and the energy drink 'Toro,' manufactured in Haiti, was still available for sale despite a Dominican ban on the product imposed last week.

There's been more discoveries of the Avian Flu in D.R. this past weekend and somehow they still want to block entry of Haitian products. I ask myself if the Dominican elites dont quiver when they enact such a rediculous ban. Hopefully, Rene Preval has enough testicular fortitude to stay strong and keep the ban on until there is 100 percent proof that all things are good enough to allow those chicken back into the country.

Wouldn't this be a great time for Haitians to finally cut all dependence on DR products. They only sell garbage to Haiti anyways ie,, Rotten Meat, Expired products ... etc. Haitian people have some pride, go back to the fields and feed yourselves.

"You get what you paid for." Haiti people are treated the same way the USA treads many Mexicans and other poor Latinos immigrants inside the USA. You see McDonald staffed with uneducated people serving food. The Agriculture fields are full of Mexican working the land JUST like in the DR.
It took many decade and hard work just to get a 1penny rise on their $3 a day labor. They are also treaded like pupu. Unlike the USA, DR tread Haitians much better than the USA even the illegals but not at a uniform base.

The less educated people throughout history regardless of color, race, religion or age had always been exploited. NOT JUST Haiti. Look at la sona francas, and China. China enslaves its own people in slavery like working conditions.

SOOOOO, what are some saying here. That DR is bad because it is doing some EVERYONE else is doing including the USA? Are you forgetting CUBA? And why hasn't the USA help Haiti improve on their condition a lot more?

DR is facing

And I continue your answer, mr. Perception, saying: they plan on getting this island to Hispaniola, condemning the island to its final doom, because both national groups will never survive together without wanting to wipe each other out IF this process is carried forth with both nations elites eating the lion's share of the profits while both populations are left to fight for the crumbs of whatever these elites may leave (as they're currently doing), with the international community as an entertained spectator on the sidelines. Do you really hate us (with us I'm talking about the people of both Haiti/DR) so much to hope for that to happen, mr. Perception? then this would not be your dreamed paradise, but A F!@#%^&ING PENAL COLONY, like Australia was to the Brits, but unlike Australia, we'll not have a hope for a reprieve, because your country would have the island' s shores blockaded, ensuring that no one would find a way out of the island prison, fleeing to Florida or Puerto Rico.

Rafael: This article has nothing to do with slavery in countries of the past or the supposed slavery of countries now.

The USA cannot be the savior of every country that needs help. It simply cannot. If the USA decides to give all of its attention to the 3rd poorest country in the world (haiti), then it would need to give even more attention to the first two (bangladesh and india). My grandpa has a saying: If I had $8,000,000 to give to the country of haiti (which come to 1$ for every person) the country will be just the same as it was the day before. But, if he gives $8,000,000 to a little town of 300 people, those 300 people will be greatly afffected and then able to affect 300 more, and it becomes a snowball effect. You can't walk into a country and change them overnight, helping them by fixing their poverty problem. You need to change a smaller group of people, and they can change the REST of the country on their own. It is a long term investment.

Is always easy fo find an scapegoat all the time and blame this person, this country, the planet, the vatican or whatever reasonable excuse.

Cuba has being enduring a political embargo for 40 years and regardless if We like or not Fidel Castro and his regime (cubans are always on the top 5 winning spots for the olyimpics, have the highest most profesional executives among latin countries in most respected american companies) etc etc

Cubans never look for excuses not to strive for excellence, the best of the best and achieve goals.

But it's easy to look for excuses why you don't have this GDP, why so much poverty, diseases, why all the forest and enviroment is destroyed and polluted, why the UN blue helmets are still watching the country.

There is a big concern on the international community to help Haiti but this is coming to and end that if there is not positive progress or shift, are haitians going to blame the UN which they already did it in the past saying that they are

(Cont) there for not credible reason when in reality they are preventing the country to go in a deeper chaos and not controlable situation.

So who's to blame???

Who's fault is that things are not going right??

Kidnappings????

Goverment allowing their people to eat dirt cookies???

No investments from companies worldwide....

Last US investment was sold to the DR goverment, "Refinery". Not to mention the late "Verizon Co." Business people with two fingers across their forehead, don't place their cash in harms ways. Unfortenaly, DR has become one of the few countries accepting "Cash-laundry" as their prime foreign investment from abroad.

Keep digging yourselfs deeper!!! We might develop some kind of a sub-ground elevator then, like what the miners (not minors) use !!!!

Please don't shoot yourselves in the foot anymore !!! Its hurting.

To Perception: I will sugest you (On my humble opinion) to read business books, watch CNBC, Bloomberg news or else.

Your biased comments against dominicans doesn't' allow you to see the reality in Dominican Republic.

Mr Donald Trump was in Punta Cana few months ago and to my knowledge (Roughly) He invested US$500,000,000 (five hundred million dollars) in real estate and eventually later on He sold part of his investments in no time with a good earning percentage.

So If We compare people like Him (Wealthy businessman) to somebody like You (Business agitator/dominican hater/clueless) in terms of business knowledge, I guess You are the WIZARD and not him Right???

I would post other names like him, companies, corporations, countries and else but don't have the time and don't know if your education degree will let you see far away from your nose location and brain cells reality.

So continue debating what you can't prove and make yourself look like a fool DEAR BROTHER

So you think this is good or bad for Dominican Rep investments or what according to your expertise

Wrong again!!! Mr. JR:
Mr. Trump its rich on "Passive Debt", we all knows that, he only endorsed Cap Cana business for a few bucks, otherwise he wouldn't be doing "Reality TV" or loosing his wig in front of 30,000,000 viewers at one of the "WWF" shows for a few more bucks.
Unless you mention a real Multi-National corporation (Well intended) , your only talking non-senses.

DR with this actual "Administration", will push the Island in further "Isolation".

Hopping for the best, for each single inhabitant of the Island!!!!!! Good Luck

Its very sad for our society, that an Icon like Trump offer him self for an "International Scam" The sound of bill collectors due make people do crazy things. And you should know, he is already backing out since bonds auth. fail in N.Y.

To Perception: who is succesful right now YOU or DONALD TRUMP??

There is a simple known law in US "Other's people Money" is being written in so many business books, so seems to be that You want to teach your own business rules that are not written yet.

He might be in debt right now but HE is not doing anything illegal or wrong, is plain and simple part of the business foundation in the US society.

Mr Trump is a business man and everybody that owns a business is not 100% solid in cash (or liquidity) every business person or company has some kind or percentage of debt.

Even the big corporations OWN MILLIONS and MILLIONS to the international community.

I insist that You must take a business crash course and leave the Dominican Republic Alone.

Haiti needs help right now not us, so please

We need a president and goverment with a good and positive STAMINA, let's see the positive future "Dear DOMINICAN brothers and sisters " the world is crashing down on our country but it's not the end yet.

Revolutions, conquests and fights are won not by propaganda but honor, good values and respecting the legacy of owr founding fathers "Duarte, Sanchez y Mella"

We enjoy our freedon and enforce good citizens values by our constitution that can never be raped, forced or tortured to benefit and grant an specific etnia "Values and rights not deserved
according to our legal laws.

The time has come Dominicans "men and women" to raise and fight against the silent
and destructive quiet invasion that foreign nations and the goverment are forcing
the dominican country to take and accept for granted at face value.

To Johnusa: thanks for your nearsighted comments and keep something in mind, first don't worry about your BELOVED USA I do have enough personality, guts and stamina to face the problem in person not by far away distance like you mentioned.

To translate my ideas in a civilized way I didnt' imply in my comments to do anything wild, uncivilized or destructive, my points are clear and constructive to build a new nation and reinforce the values that our society is missing due to the poor propaganda and media that is feeding their brains.

And also seems to be that you are the terrorist because I never mention to hurt anybody or destroy any properties but you are a little bit agitated and confused.

Keep the good work fighting for your friends and "Love and Peace"
