SANTO DOMINGO.- Several wounded, the windshields of several minibuses shattered and hundreds of commuters left standing in Santo Domingo province  and the National District was the result of this morning’s walkout by drivers of the union Fenatrano.

That union’s president, Juan Hubieres, who has been dubbed one of the country’s “owners” for his ability to stage violent strikes with impunity, demanded that the Government resume the delivery of subsidized diesel and that the Santo Domingo Metro’s (subway) feeder routes be assigned to them.

From 6 to 10 a.m. the main roads between the city and its suburbs was the scene of confrontations, as a Police agent shot a Fenatrano bus fare collector after he allegedly hurled stones at a minibus of the union Conatra, on the San Cristóbal route. Police said the bus driver and two passengers were also wounded.

Hubieres called the walkout "successful" because in his view it “paralyzed” more than 60 percent greater Santo Domingo’s commuter transport, and reiterated his demand that the Government resume the delivery of subsidized diesel.

He said in the last three months the 900,000 gallons assigned to Fenatrano’s buses had been already spent, and that it’s only 20 percent of the millions of gallons they use.

Last night, the three other “owners” of the country; Antonio Marte, Alfredo Pulinario Linares (Cambita)  and Ramón Perez Figueres, of the bus unions Conatra, Mochotrán and CNTU, met in the National Palace last night with president Leonel Fernandez, who said he was willing to look for a solution to the demand for the subsidy on fuel.

This article IS NOT about the "Sun Land Deal", so keep that out ogthis thread, please.
If you want to comment on these bullies creating violence and mahem feel free to do so, but stay away from that which has absolutely nothing to do with the article at hand.
You're real good at trying to divert attention away from the primary objectective, but try and remember that it'sthis question we all wish todiscuss, not your selective agenda.

Now, what are your comments on thesubject of this article? Do you agree, or disagree, with the manner inwhich these "Unions" are trying to intimidate the government with their demands of "subsidies" for their operations? Do you think it isan unreasonable demand, especially when they resort to violence just to show how "tough" they are? Do you think they could use more civilized tactics?
Kep to the subject and answer those questions without wandering off into the''wild blue yonder".

These bullies are setting a bad example for other unions, this should not be tolerated. The union should be fined and the president should be imprisoned for one day per incident.

I think they sould try and use less fuel ! Little waste management would go a lng way... I've seen it many times that buses especially are idling for hours, instead of shutting down their engines when parked, for Peet's sake... so if they're subsidized it doesn't mean its plenty ! Just imagine 120g/km CO2 emmisions is wishfull thinking maybe in the 2020's ...2050's in the DR ?!

My post was in response to your original post of "What happened to the "Sun Lan Deal", or words to that effect.
Unfortunately, that post was removed, therefore it is my opinion that your follow-up post is moot and without foundation for comment.
I did a translation of your comment and it just didn't make sense to me since I'm not conversant in Spanish. Wish you would do the same using ALTA VISTA and you'll see what I mean.
