SANTO DOMINGO. - Operation Easter Week 2008 begins next Thursday with around 30,000 volunteers in different parts of the country, whose task is to prevent accidents during the long break.

Members of the Armed Forces, National Police, Metropolitan Transit Authority, Public Health, Essential Medicine Program and the Public Works Ministry will participate in the operation, to conclude on March 23.

"For this operation we will have 31,000 men and women from different agencies, 116 ambulances, 2,125 first aid stations located on highways, avenues, swimming areas and beaches, 9 control centers and 4 mobile hospitals," said colonel Juan Manuel Méndez, head of the Emergency Operations Center (COE). They’ll have three aircraft to supervise beaches, rivers and zones where a lot of people gather. 

The following are the 132 dangerous beaches and swimming holes shuttered by the public safety agencies: In National District, Guibia beach. In  Santo Domingo East province, San Souci beach, Punta Torrecilla spring.

In Manreza; Charco Manoguayabo; Puente Palave Bienvenido; Control de Guagua In Manoguayabo; El Ocho, La Victoria; Manati La Victoria, La Ceiba; El Pozo; La Malena, La Posita Cucama, La Malena, Pozo Bayohan, Bayona, La Poza, Hato Nuevo, La Mina, Batey Lecheria, Subervi and La Cuaba.

In Santiago: La Peñita, Arroyo Boca Pastor, La Zursa, La Otra Banda, Arroyo Gurabo; Laguna de la Finca Vargas; La Otra Banda and the dams Tavera, Bao and López Angostura.

Espaillat province: El Paraiso, Jamao, Charca Jamao; Los Conos de Gaspar Hernández, El Malecon and the Jiménez dam.

Mao: La Compuerta, Palo de Garza,  Charco La Vieja Juana, Los Motores Inapa and Puerto Nuevo.

San Pedro: Marota, Hawai, El Muerto, Malecón; El Bufeadero, Rio Bajito, La manguita, El Puente, Río Magua, Muelle Consuelo, Batey Verde, Rio Soco, El Cocal and El Paso de Pijín.
