SANTO DOMINGO.- Public Works minister Víctor Diaz said all vehicles can use the roads free of tolls around the country, including highways 6 de Noviembre, Duarte and Las Americas, from noon Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday.

He said the measure aims to speed up traffic so travelers and vacationers headed to towns, beaches, rivers and hotels better enjoy the Easter break.

He also announced the ban on heavy vehicles on the highways from noon tomorrow Thursday to noon Sunday, with the transport of fuels and perishable foods excluded.

Of course, lets tax the workers. But if you want to hang out on the streets it's free.
What a beautiful country!!

I apoligize, it is a great move.
The corporate world won't be able to benefit if the free toll does not apply to them.
If tolls are free for everyone the companies would try to take advantage of it.

This is good for travelers so they can spend less time on the street and more time with theire family but also bad for the transportation authority because due to this measure they will be loosing thousands of dollars, but family is important and sacred to us dominicans..

they should do this for the first month or two weeks at least of new Samana highway to show people how much time they are going to save....especially if the toll is going to be high

Well I guess the word did not get to the toll booth operators in time for me. I travel from Santo Domingo on Thursday not getting to the toll booth till well after NOON they gave me a bottle of free water. This was the supporters of the (PURPLE) well lets say you know??

Can I get my 30 pesos back? OOO right no receipt to show; would it have mattered??:)
No problem just goes to show they have good intention but sometimes things do not go smooth.
If and when this started it is good for the people.

ceworld, your 30 pesos has been well spent. the toll taker in question has spent it on brugal, perhaps extra viejo. don't be such a spoilsport; contribute to the festivity economy!
