SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Customs Agency (DGA) will penalize locals or foreigners who import vehicles on the Santo Domingo-Mayagüez Ferry under the temporary category, and haven’t requested a justified extension.

People in that situation and who haven’t submitted proof the vehicle returned abroad have 15 days to go to Customs Office in the Ferry Terminal.

According to Customs Law vehicles can be brought to the country on a temporary basis for 30 days, and at the end of that period the owner must request an extension.

Question:) Why pay to ship a car into the country for 30 days or less, why not rent??

here is the answer, in part. it is pretty cheap to bring a car over on the ferry: much less than to rent one for 30 days. secondly, you do not want to get into an accident here in a rental car. the company will bill you so much for the repairs you will wish you walked everywhere! Puerto Rico has american insurance companies which probably extend coverage outside the country: i am not sure, but i have heard this from others. if anyone has contrary info, please correct me.

Well pray I get pass tomorrow! I do not know what they would try and charg for an accident but everytime I pay them for full coverage. So say that they may try, but I will get it straight. They will have to try while I'm at home doing what I know best; fight all battles heads up.

I was told that my deductable was $1,000.00US a bit high but that is where they cover themself for antthing thin within the 1-1000 range.
