SANTO DOMINGO. - With the Supreme Court (SCJ) rejecting their appeal, some of the 10 convicted in the Plan Renove RD$1.8 billion embezzlement case are expected to spend varying terms in prison and fines.

The high Court ruled against the appeal filed by Pedro Franco Badía, Favio Ruiz, Milcíades Amaro Guzmán, Antonio Marte, Gervasio de la Rosa, Alfredo Pulinares (Cambita), among others.

To SCJ based its ruling on the Penal Procedural Code, to uphold the National District 5th Penal Chamber’s sentence of October 17, 2005, then presided by judge Esther Agelán Casasnovas.

For his part, Corruption Prevention Department (DPCA), director Octavio Líster praised the decision, and said in those cases, the judge orders that the defendant be held in preventive incarceration.

The group was accused of embezzling more than RD$1.8 billion from the State through the Plan Renove vehicle-purchase program.

And what are they going to do about retrieving the lost sums of money that were stolen. Nothing as usual I suppose and then all will be forgotten until a new scheme is thought up to take the place of this one and then they start all over again.
