SANTO DOMINGO.- Doctors grouped in the CMD union began a 48-hour strike in public and Dominican Security Institute Social hospitals today, to demand a wage increase. It’s the second strike in as many months, after the Government rejected the salary increase arguing lack of funds.
The capital’s media reports that the few patients who visited the hospitals went to change their appointments. Doctors stopped working since 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, attending only emergencies and patients in critical state.
CMD president Waldo A. Suero said the strike was successful and affected all public and IDSS hospitals.
He called on the Government to that next to the CMD seek a solution the and new conflicts and cautioned that the doctors could paralyze the hospitals for as long as one week and even longer, if their demands aren’t met. "We challenge the Government to a dialogue with a concrete proposal to solver the conflict."
