SANTO DOMINGO.- In the last 15 months 861 people have been declared Fugitives of Justice in the National District, some described as “armed and dangerous” after jumping bail and ignoring court rulings.
In 2007 697 people were declared fugitives by seven instruction and penal court judges, according to the National District Office of the Prosecutor.
So far this year 164 suspects have chosen to flee, who are sought by the DA’s Fugitive and Escapee Capture Unit and an impediment to exit the country is placed on all fugitives, along with the posting of their personal data and mug shots.
Among those wanted by the Capture Unit are the drug-trafficking suspects Anris Fernandez, Jose Maria Guillén, Jose Antonio Florián, Nelson Portorreal, Edwin Valentin, Jiménez, Junior Pacheco, Amed Alix Payano, Porfirio Reyes Vizcaíno, Ángela Cabral, Domingo Féliz Montilla, Diogenes Mercedes de la Cruz, Jose Avelino Ramirez and Wascar Orland Castillo.
In the last three months seven people linked to homicides have been declared fugitives; 12 for monetary crimes, 14 for gender violence, 108 for drug-trafficking, one for auto theft and two for sexual crimes.
