DNCD clarifies names and pilot

SANTO DOMINGO.- National Drugs Control (DNCD) and Customs agents Wednesday night arrested a son of Supreme Court Justice Rafael Luciano Pichardo, for illegally introducing to the country around US$500,000 from Puerto Rico, newspaper Clave Digital says.

Rafael Luciano Pichardo Corominas was detained in the Las Americas International Airport, where Dominican agents waited for him, allegedly in a joint operation with Puerto Rico’s authorities.

The SIN network, Channel 7 last night reported the airplane's registry as H1831.

The DNCE said it confiscated US$580,000 in Las Americas, and arrested three suspects for trying to introduce the money from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

The DNCD said the small plane of Dominican registry was piloted by Luis Ovalles, with Pichardo and Juan Jose Martin aboard, who were taken DNCD headquarters after their arrest. The authorities said they were tipped off about the attempt to smuggle the large amount of money..
