New York.– With some 57,000 Dominican expatriates in New York expected to vote in the Dominican Republic's presidential elections on May 16, WXTV-Univision 41 said it will provide weeklong coverage from the island nation beginning May 12.
Reporter Merijoel Durán, a Dominican native, will lead the coverage starting on May 12 with a series of special reports that will air during "Noticias Univision 41" at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., the station said.
Durán will be joined on air by Esperanza Cervallos, WXTV's correspondent in the Dominican and the only reporter working for a New York TV station who is permanently based on the island.
On May 15, the last day of political campaigning in the country, and on May 16, Election Day, Durán will join Cevallos in providing live on-air reports from the Dominican, the station said.
In New York, the station has assembled a team of reporters and analysts to provide coverage and analysis throughout the week of expatriate voting from the predominantly Dominican neighborhood of Washington Heights in Manhattan.
An estimated 756,000 Dominicans live in New York with nearly 8 percent expected
to cast votes in their native country's presidential elections. The Dominican
Republic permits expatriate voting.

That is a sad statement that only 8% will vote. Sure doesn't look like the overwhelming majority feel that its Pa' Lante Que Vamos!
