Santo Domingo.– Most Dominicans are planning to vote for the incumbent in this month’s presidential election, according to a poll by Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates. 56 per cent of respondents would back Leonel Fernández of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in the ballot, unchanged since March.

Miguel Vargas Maldonado of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) is second with 37 per cent –up five points since March– followed by Amable Aristy Castro of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) with five per cent.

In the May 2004 presidential election, Fernández received 57.11 per cent of the vote, defeating incumbent Hipólito Mejía of the PRD and Eduardo Estrella of the PRSC. Fernández had previously served as the Dominican Republic’s head of state from 1996 to 2000.

On May 1, Vargas accused the current government of poor economic management, saying, "The re-election candidate should explain why he didn’t take measures to prevent price increases of food and medicine, which could’ve been avoided by lowering taxes on fuels, supporting farm production with funds and not ballooning the public expenditure, which has pressed additional prices increases."

The presidential election is scheduled for May 16. A candidate requires more than 50 per cent of the vote to be elected in the first round.

Is there even a need to report on this anymore? We already know that Leonel is going to win.

And I'm sure these results were just estimates--that no actual work went into coming up with these numbers.

Just make sure you come out and vote on the 16th, preferably for a party other than the PRD. Lets go at least 4 years forward and not 20 years back.

Mark Penn the discredited Hillary Clinton pollster had HC as the overwhelming favorite to win the Democratic nomination, the sure winner 5 months ago. Last Tuesday she was suppose to win Indiana by a significant margin.

What happened Markyboy, since your made up numbers did not work for Hillary, now you are turning to fabricating numbers for "Lie-onel"?

0000

Penn's firm and Gallup are the most crooked pollsters on earth.

If there is any similarity between Penn's results and political reality, it is purely coincidental.

And transitory.

My reason for not supporting Hillary has nothing to do with gender, my mother was a woman, and she was capable of running the world as most mothers are.

It is because of CLASS, she has none. This is an evil woman even more satanical than her husband and this is a very high bar to pass!

Anyway, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all my sisters, and as Mao the romantic poet would say "Women hold up half the sky," que dios las bendiga a todas!

If I had a dollar for all the freinds I lost because of my opposition to Bill Clinton I would be retired in Samana! Especially African-Americans who worshipped at the Clinton altar as if he was the second coming of the messiah. Now many call me to say how bamboozled, as Malcolm would say, they were with the Bill Clinton. Especially with his Grand Wizard tactics in this campaign.

To me he was always a phony, a fake and fraud and she is that exponentially.

Those Penn , Schoen & Berland, are nothing more than a group of "charlatanes", with no ethics ,
and of course, a lack of understanding of the real world.

Since I despise each one of the 3 great groups of our country, all a bunch of thieves with the white, red and purple colors, but knowing a vote is the most important thing to do, and although
we still don't have the slighest idea what to expect, however, I will follow my friend Josean on this one, and follow my instinct as well.

Let's give Guillermo Moreno a chance to build up regardless of his political ideas, at least is a change from the corrupts who have manhandled our politics, and the well being of our citizens.

Food for thought:
Edward C. Banfield in 1958 published the book "The Moral Basis of a Backward Society," which revolutionized the social sciences. He compared the attitudes of the inhabitants of an underdeveloped Italian village, with one of similar characteristics, but developed. In comparison, he drew 17 corollaries of what he called the "amoral familism", namely the attitude of the people to act on their own behalf and not in the community.
The 17 corollaries help understand Dominicans today, and are:
1. Nobody supports the group's interest except if their own interests are supported
2. Only officials will deal with public affairs
3. There will be few obstacles to the activities of officials
4. Holders of official posts will work only insofar as is necessary to retain the post
5. The law is not binding when there is no reason to fear punishment
6. It will be difficult to maintain cohesive organizations

Continued..
7. The officials accept bribes when they can get away with it
8. The weak will favour a regime of tough application of laws
9. Anyone who invokes civility as motivation, will be considered a dishonest
10. There is no relationship between abstract political principles and specific conduct in everyday life
11. There are neither leaders nor followers
12. The people vote only with a view to short-term gain
13. Individuals support the communal activities only if there is any direct benefit for themselves
14. People have little confidence in the promises of politicians
15. People in power are corrupt and working for their own benefit
16. No political organization is worthy of its name and
17. Party members will sell their services to the highest bidder.

gouletcolonial,

LMAO thanks for the link, but if you trying to say that all HIP HOP speaks, about Materialism and nonsense. Then you obviously did not see the whole Immortal Technique Video.
Please do not Stereotype and Shutdown your brain, right away just because you hear a Hip Hop Rhythm. Give a chance, you might learn something new.

Here is another one, a little more mellow down.
