SANTO DOMINGO. - A Santo Domingo Province Appellate Court ordered former State-owned energy companies director (CDEEE) Cesar Sanchez to stand criminal trial, on charges of malfeasance in the use of more than RD$2 billion, originating from the Sovereign Bonds.

Penal Chamber judges Olga Herrera Carbucia, Dario Gomez Herrera and Manuel  Socorro Perez handed down the ruling after hearing the appeal of the acquittal favoring the former official, filed by Anti-Corruption Department director Octavio Lister, against a National District lower court verdict issued February 2, 2007.

Sanchez was indicted on charges of prevarication, embezzlement, breach of trust and violation of the law on sovereign bonds.

The court also accepted a series of "evidence" against the official in the Hipólito Mejía presidency (2000-2004).

why now?

This one and hundred of more cases, perhaps thousands, from the previous 40 years are still
hanging in the balance, so what if a another party wins the elections, to go again with the same level of revenge?

This should be done by people aside from the political parties, this must be done by citizens of the country, a commitee designed for such purposes, and perhaps most of the corruption cases we all see from the PRD, PLD, PRSC and who ever else govern the country for the only purpose of enriching themselves get the idea that will no be tolerated.

The man at the top of the heap is always the one responsible for the actions of those below him, whether or not he is personally culpable for such actions.
There needs to be in-depth investigation of each and every Ministry of thegovernment in order to root out those who benefit financially from their corrupt actions, no matter their party affiliations.
This means articulating whatever they have in theform of financial gain while incumbent in any government position, no matter when.
It will take an "Act of God" to do this since the politicos do not have the honor, nor thewill to authorize such actions by an equally corrupt justice system.
